The Mystery of Global Warming's Missing Heat
NPR ^ | 3/19/08 | Richard Harris

Posted on 04/26/2008 7:43:44 AM PDT by Dawnsblood

Some 3,000 scientific robots that are plying the ocean have sent home a puzzling message. These diving instruments suggest that the oceans have not warmed up at all over the past four or five years. That could mean global warming has taken a breather. Or it could mean scientists aren't quite understanding what their robots are telling them.

This is puzzling in part because here on the surface of the Earth, the years since 2003 have been some of the hottest on record. But Josh Willis at NASA's Jet Propulsion Laboratory says the oceans are what really matter when it comes to global warming.

In fact, 80 percent to 90 percent of global warming involves heating up ocean waters. They hold much more heat than the atmosphere can. So Willis has been studying the ocean with a fleet of robotic instruments called the Argo system. The buoys can dive 3,000 feet down and measure ocean temperature. Since the system was fully deployed in 2003, it has recorded no warming of the global oceans.

Or it could mean scientists aren't quite understanding what their robots are telling them.

It merely means that they were mistaken to think there was "global warming" in the first place. They are just embarrassed to admit it.

Geez, no bias here. The mantra now is that since the numbers don’t add up, GW must simply be taking a breather.

That’s like saying that (in my single years) every woman that wouldn’t jump my bones must have been gay, because I certainly was irresistible to any normal woman.

“The fault, dear Brutus, is not in our stars,
But in ourselves, that we are underlings.”

Truth and logic always prevails in the end. Too many smart young people looking for it desperately. The Democrats are painting themselves into a corner with lies. They will be left stranded there after these young people grow up and learn for themselves what is real. Not fabricated by rhetoric or demagoguery.

More likely it's that they haven't been able to find the right "facts" in order to prove their pet theory.

“It’s also possible that some of the heat has gone even deeper into the ocean, he says. “

Of course we all know that warm water is shy when it fears it is about to be found & measured. It seems very logical that this warm water would then head deep into the ocean and hide where all the cold water should be found. s/o

"It's April 26th 2008. It is snowing right now in Minneapolis Minnesota. Where do I file my class action lawsuit suing Al Gore for fraud?"

Yep. Doesn't surprise me in the slightest. Anchorage got two feet of Gorebal warming, while we got about 10 inches here in Wasilla yesterday.

“warm water would then head deep into the ocean and hide”

I heard that the warm water and the hot spot in the atmosphere had a thing going for each other. Maybe both of them lit out for some privacy.

I remember lots of late April storms in the Mat-Su in the ‘70s larger than this. It looks like things are coming back to normal.

Of course all those hippies who took over Talkeetna and Willow would still see things Gore’s way. They were orgasmic when Clinton shut down the possibility of drilling in ANWR. (And still are)

Same here in Alaska. It snowed all day yesterday. 15 inches yesterday, a few more expected today. We should be in shorts, and looking at the birch trees leafing out nicely. I had already put away the winter gear...NOT cool...er...warm....anyway

Gee a 2 thirty year cycles...

Could that possibly be related to the reason for the 60 day oriental calendar. Where there are 30 good years and 30 bad years...

And all of that related to the 12 year orbital of Jupiter and the 30 year orbital of Saturn that naturally lines up every 60 years?

Or it could mean that the scientists are too committed to their theory to believe their observations.

Sort of like much of modern astronomy.

That becomes clear when you consider what's happening to global sea level. Sea level rises when the oceans get warm because warmer water expands. This accounts for about half of global sea level rise. So with the oceans not warming, you would expect to see less sea level rise. Instead, sea level has risen about half an inch in the past four years. That's a lot.

How do they know if the sea level has risen or if the ground has sunk?

I have been posting the daily image of the sun from spaceweather.com regularly to the climate threads. Here is today's image with no sunspots reported. There have only been three small spots since January.
