A vessel contracted by the Navy in the Persian Gulf fired warning shots Thursday on two Iranian fast boats, FOX News has learned. The Westward Venture, a ship contracted by the Navy to carry military cargo to Kuwait, fired upon the boats Thursday after attempts to get Iranian boats' attention failed. The ship was about 50 miles off the coast of Iran when the fast boats approached. A Navy security team, armed with M16 rifles and .50-caliber machine guns, was onboard at the time the warning shots were fired.

I observe that there are some -- several? -- doctrinal positions that are best "held in open hands." Definitely know what you think, and know the scripture that supports what you think, but prioritize "the love of the Truth" above your preference for what you think, so that, if the Truth proves be other than you think, you will not be offended at the Truth. For I warrant that many will see events unfold that are wholly other than they though, and because they value what they think above what is True, when Truth proves other than what they think it will be these same will be in danger of taking offense, and falling away.
Learning to be content with unanswered questions, and to hold less central doctrines in "open hands" has, for me, been an interesting exercise in humility, because I'm wired to seek out "the right answer," lock onto it, and subsequently accept no other answers. After being forced to release my iron grip, because I was proven wrong a time or three -- or maybe it was four...or more -- I have come fully appreciate this Proverb:
The first to state his case seems right, until another comes and cross-examines him.

Certainly, I still seek "the right answers," but I no longer speak so much in terms of "this is the answer," as in terms of "this is what I think about that."

Please understand - on a personal level I could honestly not care a fig less about bad press related to something with the worldwide ramifications of potentially overturning the rule of the mullahs, freeing the good, honest people of Persia to be who they are, rather than whom the theocratic despots currently running the show tell them they must be.
But it is at the same time a political reality that in the event of such a war,(which the Liberal American/European media has already been sounding their drumbeats of stupidity against) the press must be somehow managed effectively enough, for long enough, to execute at least the most critical opening salvos of such a conflict.
Consider what they have done right now with the GWOT Iraqi theatre: they have effectively persuaded/brainwashed a significant portion of the US public, and nearly the whole of the traitorous Democratic party that Iraq has been a losing effort - or at best, a terrible mistake with far too many fatalities and casualties.
Too many fatalities? Not even 4,500 US fatalities as of now?! Ridiculous, of course when one considers the alternative of not remaining on the offensive and taking the battle to the terrorists and their masters in their own region of the world - and possibly enduring another successful and more devastating attack upon American soil...
We suffered more than that storming the beaches at Normandy, IIRC.
The media are certainly trying to make sure that so many among us as possible lack the stomach for what is TRULY necessary. I believe action in Iran is necessary and all but inevitable.
Personally I do not care whether we are “loved”, so long as we wisely flex enough power to be respected and to the needed extent, feared for our ability and willingness to utilize that power.
No - this is not my mindset. As I wrote, these are only semi-rhetorical questions.
In fact, as far as pre-emptive actions are concerned, I would thoroughly love to see a “wetworks” team dispatched to South America under orders to eliminate Hugo Chavez, and another to Cuba to rid the world of Castro influence.
The same thing holds true of Ahmadenijhad. The next flight he takes anywhere, should be considered a moving target, IMHO...
No - I do not fear the lack of love, I just know our press, and I do not look forward to that aspect of what will come. It will take a President and cabinet of extraodinary fortitude and foresight to conceive and well-execute what is needed.

Actually, I read you as a proponent of action and was also making rhetorical “you” comments as facets of my opinions, where I intended to share the thought that if we allow the press, liberals etc., to interfere with our decisions, we are shooting ourselves in the foot - no in the heart.
Perhaps I should have used a rhetorical “we” instead of “you” as I was not aiming at you - except here by unintended mistake.
What has prevented so much that needs to happen from happening is the liberal Dims in general and the anti-Bush saboteurs like the CIA and State Dept, in particular.
Once again, I never had any doubts of your position just used “you” as a response mechanism.

Glad to hear that. My comment about being ‘deluded’ wasn’t meant necessarily in a negative way, we all delude ourselves in one way or another, some might say that I’ve deluded *my* self into believing that a massive strike on Iran’s military-industrial infrastructure combined with a decapitating style attack on their leadership would solve the problem, and for all we know, we could end up with another damn Desert One disaster, God forbid.
There is a school of thought that believes that we can eliminate the problem of Iran by somehow engineering a coup against the mullahs, or provoking a general uprising, but after 30+ years of Iranian society being purged of any real pro-Western sentiments let alone sympathies for America, I don’t see that as a likely possibility.
Like the saying goes FRiend, ‘you go to your church, and I’ll go to mine, as long as it’s the same bread and wine.’
