To judge by the ads, the most loyal adherents to CBS' quasi-journalistic programming are impotent and incontinent. It so happens that they share these afflictions with the network's actual news division. Katie Couric is reportedly itching to bolt her gig as the anchor of broadcast TV's worst-rated evening newscast. Last month, Shelley Ross lost her job producing The Early Show, the worst-rated morning newscast, after problems concerning temper tantrums and tequila parties. Most weeks, the perfectly decent Bob Schieffer, who will retire after the 2009 inauguration, sees Face the Nation to a finish as the third-rated Sunday show. That 60 Minutes (and now Katie as anchor) and CBS News is journalism is the longest running fairy tale in the business.

I quit believing 60 Minutes before I quit believing in the tooth fairy.
I think Couric should be forced to stay for her entire contract and forever be associated with the cesspool that CBS has become.
Katie is like really bad opera, it’s much worse than it sounds.
I very rarely watch network news, but I sometimes catch a few minutes of 60 Minutes. Somehow it always surprises me to see the same ancient entertainers on the screen, moving slowly around, grinning at their senile audience.
