Federal legislation to provide paid family leave was introduced in Washington this week.

We hear a lot of talk about family values in Washington, Rep. Pete Stark of California, one of the sponsors of the bill, said in a release. It is time for Congress to stop just talking about family values and take action that families will actually value.
Stark said the existing Family and Medical Leave Act had been a tremendous success but that many workers could not afford to take unpaid leave.
To make the offer real, the U.S. should take the next step by providing paid leave to all workers, Stark said.
The benefit would be provided through a trust fund that would be financed by employers and employees, who would each contribute 0.2 percent of the employees pay. Workers earning less than $30,000 a year would receive full or near-full salary replacement. Those making $30,000 to $60,000 a year would receive 55 percent wage replacement, and those who earned more than $60,000 would get 40 to 45 percent. The benefit would be capped at about $800 a week.
Groups endorsing the legislation include the AFL-CIO, National Partnership for Women and Families, Voices for Americas Children and the National Employment Law Project.
We were warned this was coming when they passed the Family Medical Leave Act. No one listened.
From CA to NJ now onto Missouri. Pass the socialist goodies folks.
Idiocy.
The feds have gone off the reservation big time on this one.
This is for a federal law.
You know, it’s crap like this that make conservatives throw up their hands, question what their vote means, and stay home.
Only in an election year. Can’t we simply get people up there who are looking out for the country and not how to continuously get re-elected?
And like every other government program, the more you pay in, the less you get out.
Which is why I don’t bother to read any Govt. proposal (local, state or federal) that involves raising taxes. If it calls for higher taxes, I vote no.
I’m happier and have so much more free time, too
We hear a lot of talk about family values in Washington, Rep. Pete Stark of California,”
Actually not since the Republicans lost the leadership. Democrats have never run on family values.
This will be reduced down to only government employees getting 12 weeks.
Does this surprise anyone?
When the FMLA went through, OF COURSE the left denied they’d ever make it a mandatory paid leave.
As Sowell states - any time there are conditions placed on a transaction (employment agreement) that are outside of the conditions that would be mutually acceptable to both parties, you’ll have less of those transactions occur (unemployment).
800 bucks a week eh?
not just for slackers.......
the ambitious cheaters can take yearly leave and do a 3 month stint at another company - or other underground economy enterprise
sheesh
I remember Limbaugh talking about how it would lead to this years ago. Everyone thought he was being ridiculous...looks pretty dang clairvoyant to me right now.
This is not socialist.
This is fascist.
It's Pete Stark, and, as usual, he's Stark-raving nuts. Everybody else in DC gives us socialism by the drink, he wants us to down the whole bottle in one slug.
It is socialism if the state pays for it.
It is fascism if the state requres employers to offer it.
And one thing you’re guaranteed of -
the left will never admit that this will inspire people to cheat their employer,
nor will they admit to causing whatever unintended consequences occur.
I am prepared to quit my job and get on the government teat. If you can’t beat ‘em, join ‘em. I want my goodies too :)
Yes I am being facetious.
