That's it. Up until now I was a broken glass Republican, but I cannot vote for this guy. I'll be staying home in November.

Michael Brown is coming out with a book saying that he wanted to use planes to airlift/evacuate the people of New Orleans but TSA was opposed to it.

such horse crap. The President warned the LA governor preemptively to make it a disaster area, and surveyed the area immediately after from the air - w/o getting in the way.
If he had landed, he would have been considered disrespectful for creating a photo op.
The White House’s lack of response to WMD argument and to Katrina baffle me to this day.

he would have immediately landed his plane at the nearest Air Force base. And if Bush would've done that, the Dimowits and media would have played up how much he was getting in the way and impeding relief efforts!!! Gaaaaa!

I watched Larry King last night because Laura and Jenna Bush were going to be on. Mrs. Bush said John McCain was her candidate. Then McCain blasts Bush just for votes?
To: TPluth
Barksdale is the nearest AF base. Don’t know for sure, but I can assume that it did not fare well from the hurricane.
Of course, McCain did not mention that the nearest AF base may have been far removed from Louisiana due to the bad weather.

And, why does Juan think that’ll help?

McCain said he would have landed his plane "at the nearest Air Force Base and come over personally."And do what? Sing "Jimmy Crack Corn and ol' Massa Gone Away?"
Dude... you're an idiot!
He said Congress must share some of the blame, too.
Just wondering, are you a congressman too McCain?

You really don’t get it.
McCain must seperate himself from Bush or he’ll be tagged as Bush Lite.
I’m sure that Bush fully understands the tactic, and probably endorses the idea.

John McCain toured still hurricane-damaged areas of New Orleans and declared that if the disaster had happened on his watch, he would have immediately landed his plane at the nearest Air Force base.

I’m not a McCain fan, but it was a botched response. Was it Bush’s fault...no, it was local officials faults. However, do I have any doubt that McCain would land his helicopter right in the middle of a disaster, NO. He’s got the ego to think he could fix the situation, when he probably would just make things worse, but I think he thinks he could have helped.

Look...Bush might be saying the same thing in McCain's position. Hindsight is a wonderful thing.
I'm sure Bush thinking back would say: If I knew the darn STATE government wasn't going to do "the right thing"...I would have overridden them....
The problem was the STATE and the people who said....Hurricane....Big Deal....Move MY butt...Now, what is the governement going to do for us.
And never forget...the buses in the parking lot. Why didn't they move...The drivers were UNION..."Not my job".
