McCain says he would have responded differently to hurricane
Breitbart.com ^ | 4/24/2008 | AP

NEW ORLEANS (AP) - John McCain toured still hurricane-damaged areas of New Orleans and declared that if the disaster had happened on his watch, he would have immediately landed his plane at the nearest Air Force base. The Republican presidential candidate is campaigning this week in what he calls forgotten areas of the country. He offered a pledge Thursday to New Orleans residents that their situation will not be forgotten and that such a botched disaster response will never happen again.

McCain was unsparing in his criticism of the Bush administration. He said Congress must share some of the blame, too.

Drawing a sharp contrast to President Bush, McCain said he would have landed his plane "at the nearest Air Force Base and come over personally."

Look...Bush might be saying the same thing in McCain's position. Hindsight is a wonderful thing.

I'm sure Bush thinking back would say: If I knew the darn STATE government wasn't going to do "the right thing"...I would have overridden them....

The problem was the STATE and the people who said....Hurricane....Big Deal....Move MY butt...Now, what is the governement going to do for us.

And never forget...the buses in the parking lot. Why didn't they move...The drivers were UNION..."Not my job".

Hillary ought to top him and point out that she would have landed right in the Ninth Ward on her broomstick with her flying monkeys and started handing out candy.

And then what? make like first responder covering for the local, city and state official's screw up or... stop them from looting and shooting and themselves?

He is saying what he needs to say to win. Don’t stay home we need your vote down the ticket. I am not voteing for him because I live in Georgia and it is not competetive. If you live in a state that is competetive you need to vote against Obama and that means for McCain. Let us do the protesting. Any way you look at it he would be better than Obama plus at his age and with his health history he will probably drop dead sooner or later in his first term (probbaly sooner) and we will likely have a good President in either Sanford or Pawlenty.

“Was it Bush’s fault...no, it was local officials faults..”

Partially.

However, tHe vast majority of the blame for this disaster in NOLA belongs to the “victims” themselves who resolutely refuse any personal responsibility for nearly ANY aspect of their lives.

This is nothing new and is a “culturally” ....ahem....ingrained outlook.

Like the response to the Indian Ocean tsunami, the response to hurricane Katrina was the fastest and most massive in all recorded history. But the media spun it the exact opposite!

How potent this forces of confusion -- the MSM and the elite political class still are to capture a Freeper like yourself in their snares!

Here's the real story on the federal response to Katrina:

As the storm was crossing South Florida, USS Bataan was departing Corpus Christi, Texas, heading home to Norfolk. Bataan was instructed to wait just off the Texas coast, first, to avoid the storm, and second, to be available if any assistance was required. After the storm hit New Orleans, Bataan launched MH-60 SAR helicopters. They were over the city before the rain stopped, and picked up over 300 people on the first day, most from the roofs of houses. How do I know this? I was on watch on the bridge as the storm hit New Orleans.

We had 4 MH-60s and 2 H-53s, and sent them all ashore. The rest of the HSC squadron came down from Norfolk, along with more ships than we could count. I'm going from memory, and don't know the exact numbers, but the force eventually included a carrier (Harry S. Truman) and two amphibious assault ships (Bataan and Iwo Jima). There were so many helicopters over the city, Bataan had to send an air traffic controller to the Superdome just to control the volume of helicopters landing there.

Next time you hear somebody bitching about the federal response to Katrina, tell them the Navy was there before Katrina was.

I’m in a non-competitive state (Kalifornia), but I’m staying home anyway, or at least I won’t vote on the top spot. I want this guy to understand that he can’t turn his back on the party faithul and expect to succeed.

I think what we need right now is someway to defeat him at the Convention and force a floor fight to nominate someone else. If the national leadership does not see how destructive he’s being to the party, they deserve to be shown the door, as well.

Little Rock candy? Would she fly that out of the Mena, AR airport?

Sadly, Bush is poison. Anything and everything he did, right or wrong, must be said to be wrong now.

Reality doesn’t matter. People just think Bush is the blame for all their problems. McCain needs to be quiet about this, but if asked, he MUST say he’ll do whatever Bush didn’t do.

Just wondering, are you a congressman too McCain?

John McCain is an esteemed member of the United States House of Lords. This august institution consists of the 100 smartest, bravest, erudite men and women this nation has to offer.

Accordingly, their actions are never to be questioned.

Glad I was able to clear up the confusion.

Off...OFF damned sarcasm!!!!!!!!!
