SPOKANE -- Former White House Press Secretary Tony Snow is said to be in satisfactory condition at a Spokane hospital.
The nursing supervisor at Sacred Heart Medical Center said he was doing well Wednesday morning nearly 24 hours after he was brought in for medical care. Snow was admitted to Sacred Heart Tuesday morning hours before he was slated to hold a public lecture at EWU Tuesday as part of the Presidential Speaker Series.
As of early Wednesday morning, there's still no word on whether Snow is re-scheduling his appearance at Eastern.
The former Fox News commentator and press secretary for the Bush administration was diagnosed with colon cancer in 2005 and had his colon removed. Last year while serving as President Bush's press secretary, Snow underwent surgery to investigate an abdominal growth. The surgery revealed that the growth was cancerous and had metastasized.
Later, he announced that the cancer was in remission. On Monday, speaking with KXLY 920 radio host Mike Fitzsimmons, Snow said that he still his cancer, takes pills five days a week and undergoes chemotherapy every three weeks, a regimen he described as "not all that rough."
After participating in Fitzsimmons' afternoon radio show Snow appeared on Larry King Live, where King introduced Snow as CNN's newest political contributor.
"In Spokane, Washington, where he will speak tomorrow, Tony Snow, who served as White House press secretary for President George W. Bush and who we're happy to announce tonight, on this program, has just joined CNN as the political contributor," Larry said. "Welcome aboard, Tony."
Though Snow is better remembered for his Fox News ties, Snow noted that this is not his first stint with CNN.
"I did a lot of stuff with CNN," he said on Larry King. "People forget in the pre-Fox days, I did a lot of TV with CNN and really cut my teeth in broadcasting with them years ago. So I'm coming back to work with a lot of old friends."
When the subject turned to politics, the conservative commentator said there wasn't a lot of difference between Hillary Clinton and Barack Obama as far as policy goes, then suggested it might not matter who emerges as the Democratic nominee anyway.
"I think McCain's going to win, actually," he said, "because I think security and the economy both break his way."
Hang in there Tony!!
Healing prayers for Tony Snow.
Lots of prayers being said, Tony.
I had not heard that he was admitted to the hospital. Our thoughts and prayers go out for Tony and his family.
Only a man with the strength that God gives can handle these things with such graciousness and flair. I’m praying for you, Tony. If you will allow a bit of selfishness, we need you in the media, but mostly, we need and want you well.
Praying for you Tony!
Why do the really really good men have to have problems like this? Tony Snow is one of the best there is. Praying for his complete recovery.
Get well soon Snowman and then get your ears on.
What an admirable man. I love how he got such a spot on analysis of the election into one quick sentence. My best to him and his family.
Tony, please know that there are literally thousands of prayers going up for you. Your courage has touched many hearts, and we all are praying for total healing.
Continuing prayers. I’ve been through chemotherapy myself, and it can get pretty depressing after a while. May he recover.
You can send Tony an email here:
Amen to that.
God bless and save Tony Snow!
He’s in Washington State???? Prayers that he will be well and able to resume his busy schedule soon.
Is there any explanation as to why he was admitted in the first place? Apparently, it is cancer related but can’t find out what caused him to go to the hspital.
My Husband and I have been fans of him since he was on Fox News Sunday. I was pretty bummed out when he left and Chris Wallace took over. But, I like Chris Wallace now and I still watch every Sunday morning.
I loved the way Snow didn’t take any of David Gregory or Helen Thomas vile BS when he was press sec.
Get well soon, Tony!
Thanks for the report on our friend, Tony Snow. Rest up and get better soon, Tony...we need you!
Tony, you are so brave and a hero to so many of us.
May the Lord Jesus lay his healing hands of compassion on you, may saints and angels surround you and minister to you. May you have peace in His Presence.
In the name of the Father, and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit. Amen.
