Oakland police chief to reveal crime plan { As Oakland Merchants Fire Back }
San Francisco Chronicle ^ | 4/22/8 | Chip Johnson

I've been in neighborhoods in Detroit, Chicago and South Philly where store clerks do business from behind a formidable barrier of bulletproof glass - and customers place their money in a turnstile.

In Oakland, some store owners are choosing hot lead as the best material to put between themselves and would-be robbers.

On Saturday night, the owner of Ed's Liquors in the 2700 block of 23rd Avenue returned fire after being wounded in the leg and shot the gunman, an 18-year-old Pittsburg man, at least three times, authorities said.

And two days earlier, a clerk at Wah Fay 8th Avenue Corner Market shot his assailant five times.

The shootings are a clear indication that tensions in the city are running high these days, in the midst of a seemingly endless crime wave that has escalated in recent weeks with armed bandits brazenly bursting into restaurants in some of the city's more affluent areas during dinner hours.

Oakland residents have also seen a 10-year-old boy shot and paralyzed at a piano lesson on Piedmont Avenue and a sideshow that started a house fire. The gunslinging crooks seem to be just about everywhere, as the city's understaffed police force scrambles to respond.

And Oakland's legion of corner stores, many of which operate in poor neighborhoods, have traditionally been a favorite target for robbers - some of whom jokingly refer to such stores as ATM machines because they are robbed so frequently.

Sam Ali, owner of T&K Liquor on 23rd Avenue, about six blocks from the site of Saturday night's shooting, said carrying a weapon is part of the job in his neck of the woods.

"It's happening all over Oakland," Ali said Monday of the robberies in the past week. "You have to protect yourself."

They DO mean “crime suppression” plan, and not “crime” plan, don’t they?

Someone remind me, how many years have Republicans been running Oakland?

Yeah, I was wondering about that too. Do they intend to cut down on crime, or engage in crime?

Ever been to Oakland? Might as well go to Rowanda.

It's amazing to me that anyone will work at a liquor store or any high value target area in these hell holes.

These animals are drawn to these things like tornadoes to a trailer park.

This being a liberal area of CA, more concealed carry permits is just not going to be part of the plan.

Effective everywhere it has been tried, these dummies would do anything to not allow a citizen to defend himself.

I am glad I moved to Oregon last year.

Mostly immigrants. I see the chief wasn’t planning to do anything until the criminals started getting killed. Then he woke up.

Some one once told me “ An armed society is a polite society “ sounds Oakland is a place where you could practice this concept.

Wonder if they can shoot back when Nation of Islam thugs come in to bust up their liquor merchandise?

‘The notion that restaurateurs, theater owners and soon enough, even moviegoers will be packing guns is too much to fathom in a place like Oakland or anywhere else in the Bay Area.
It’s the antithesis of why we live here, why so many people love it and the very foundation on which our modern culture is built.
Most Oakland residents are like the people in Livermore, Belvedere and Redwood City. By California standards, we’re law-abiding citizens who don’t have guns in our homes and don’t want armed guards on our city streets.”
Fools!

Pocatello, ID is a very polite place. We don't have those kinds of problems.

Oakland police chief to reveal crime plan — after one of HIS criminals gets nailed by one of those ‘scumbag civilians’! Why wasn’t he concerned before the civilians decided to protect themselves — some jealousy, perhaps? Try putting the criminals away for good, instead of running your revolving door at the jail, and make Oakland the place it should be instead of Looter’s ATM.

California seems to have a culture of victimhood. The highest moral state that can be obtained is to be a victim of something.

****

It’s also why so many criminals love it, too...

Here is more info on that.

There are actually some nice areas in Oakland but with the packs of feral beasts that seems to be on the prowl it is more like Beirut and they are expanding their A/O. It is only a matter of time before one or more perps or more likely victims get killed in one of these take overs. If you have to go out in the evening to Oakland take “precautions.”
