There's real danger to Obama in a cry of 'snob'
The Guardian ^ | April 20th, 2008 | Michael Crowley

Posted on 04/20/2008 11:01:51 AM PDT by The_Republican

Polls show Clinton holding a stubborn lead over Obama and, if she wins, she will have staved off political death one more time. Yet if Clinton wins by a narrow margin - even after an unusually bad stretch for Obama, including his foolish observation about 'bitter' small-town voters and a horrendous debate on Wednesday - her victory will be underwhelming.

In the next two primaries, on 6 May, she trails badly in one (North Carolina) and has surrendered a one-time lead in another (Indiana). Even some Clintonites say they will pressure her to drop out should she lose both those states. And one of her prominent (unnamed) supporters recently estimated to the Politico newspaper that she only has a 10 per cent chance at the nomination.

For a fleeting moment recently, it did seem that Clinton might stand a chance, when controversy exploded over Obama's incendiary pastor, Jeremiah Wright. But Obama's skilful address on race, coupled with the media frenzy around Clinton's foolish exaggeration of 'sniper fire' in Tuzla, slammed that door.

Democrats such as Dean quite reasonably wonder whether their party has become like a family that spends millions in legal battles over an inheritance, only to find there's nothing left at the end. Though in this case the inheritance lost is nothing less than the presidency.

For as Clinton and Obama peck away at one another over honesty, patriotism and race and the like, John McCain is quietly resting, raising money, staging gauzy 'biography' events and laying out campaign positions to little criticism from a distracted left. And the Republicans are laying the groundwork for the same cynical but deadly brand of politics that has kept them in the White House for eight years.

LOL! Scheissen?

Thanks. Didn’t have a clue what that acronym meant. I’m really behind in some areas.

Unfortunately, Texas doesn’t have an ocean. I need an ocean/beach/shore so we’re looking to SC. But, another 8 years til the little one graduates high school and then we can move. Hell, by that time, I may change my mind about the ocean/coast.

The Gulf Coast begs to differ.

ROTFL! I knew that would come up. I should have clarified in my post that I’m partial to the Southeastern Coast, since I’ve been there, and of course the Jersey shore (NE coast). It doesn’t have the ocean/shore I’m familiar with. You people are mean, lol. My husband just said the same thing to me - um, honey, there is the Gulf and there is a beach and that is water and sand and your beach chair would fit just fine. But he also wanted me to move to Fort Wayne, Indiana and La Jolla, CA and both were too far away. Gotta give him kudos on that - better job opportunities and offers but I was such a baby. Hell, NJ was sorta too far at the time ;) but it was better than D.C. area where we were living at the time which was farther than South Jersey from Philly.

You may mind this funny (or sad, lol) but most of my philly friends think where I live (about 20 miles from philly) in NJ is too far away :) They think crossing the Delaware River is the same as crossing the Atlantic/living in another Country.

I can’t move to Texas. It’s too far away. My accent would be made fun of ;)

Heh. I KNOW that one - the “bless your heart or bless her heart, etc” That’s a southerner’s way of dissing someone nicely. In my neighborhood, we just say WTF? Emphasis on the F part ;)

I don’t really have an accent. Other people say I do but they’re the ones with the accent. I sound normal to me.

This thread was fun and I don’t even know what the topic was ;)

Topics don’t seem to matter on FR anymore. LOL Whatever the topic, just post about your single issue. LOL

Karl Rove was just on saying that McCain is doing well—should be way behind at this point—and isn’t.

Due to Obamas oddity of coming from mufti-racial parents he has been able to play both side of the race/religion street.

However, there is something about Obamas condescending comments that is not right and smells of an arrogant racists who has little respect for Americas traditions.

Well, how nicely put of you.

So why did you want your kids to waste 7 hours a day at public school if they shouldn’t “believe the crap that is taught there” ? What was the point ?

Since I only joined this site a few weeks ago and have never debated homeschooling on this or any other thread, I’ll leave you to judge whether eaker’s post is anything other than white noise.

As a note, eaker - other than public schooling, there is private schooling. Forget that, did ya, in your eagerness to bash homeschoolers ?

You are correct.

You are too new to know of the hatefulness of the home-schoolers on FR. If they would advocate the practice great. To call public schools gulags and worse is just stupid.

The majority of FReepers went to public school so calling us child abusers is beyond stupid. Because of their rhetoric they have become a joke here.

And you’re such a compliant, herd-bound good little citizen ? Private schools and homeschooling are legal too.

Again, what’s your point regarding wasting 7 hours at public school if you then have to spend more hours to teach them to disregard the crap ?

Sounds like you should just have put them in a school with a more acceptable curriculum in the first place and saved a bunch of hours and grief in the process.

I’m a contrarian by nature, so I tend to run against the pack for most things.

I appreciate homeschoolers for their dedication and great family life; I know a few homeschoolers whose kids are academically superior in every way to the public AND private-schooled kids who may achieve 5s on the AP tests but who can’t write their way out of a paper bag. Yes these kids would probably do well in any school setting too, but it would be a waste of time.

However, that doesn’t mean that all public and private schools are crap, either. Where private schools use a superior curriculum, the results with a good teacher are just fantastic. And public schools ? Well, we all probably went to public schools when they were a lot less corrupted than they are now. The curriculum is so debased in public schools that even if the teachers are dedicated and knowledgeable, when they follow the curriculum the kids are not challenged to their real potential.

So, I can go any way on the schools - to me, it’s all about the curriculum and the discipline to achieve.

Why would you expect a lead? The story and focus right now is the Democratic primary.. as a citizen of PA, I can tell you that you wouldn’t know McCain exists if all you did was listen to the passing culture.

McCain is doing the right stuff, right now the bloodletting is in the dem primary so that’s the story folks are following... just like IRAQ is forgotten now that its obvious we are winning. Once this fracous is over and the general begins he’ll do fine.

Fauxbama has no chance in the general.. and if HillBilly gets the nomination after Fauxbama wins the popular in the primary, it will be chaos for the dems.. they have spent 8 years inciting to riot the masses over “selected not elected”... when they do it to their own, how do you think the liberal and dependency class blacks are going to react?

HillBilly will lose far too much support from a needed consitutuency to have any chance at winning.. black talk radio is already full of nothing but ignorant conspiracy... what do you think it would sound like after a convention where barack went in with the popular lead and walked out without the nomination?

McCain is the only one looking remotely like an adult in this mess to date.. you have to completely inexperienced folks trying to spin themselves as experienced.. one with what? 8 years in the senate, the other with 2... Vs a guy with 30 years in congress, and 20+ years in the military.. there other argument is that McCain would be Bush term 3, which is not going to fly either with the swing voters. They basically have nothing, and have no hopes of a fall win.

Wait till fall before you get worried about polls.. most of the 40% of swing voters are planning summer vacations, not worrying about an election 6+ months from now.

I agree with all of your great analysis. I have been rooting for Hobama for this very reason. My only problem is why there isn’t a bigger reaction to candidates accusing each other of being terrorist sympathizers? For all the talk we hear about how people don’t like negativity, that is taking negativity to an extreme that no one has ever seen before. You would think that you would hear a huge collective gasp and both of them would sink in the polls. That’s all.

Again, most american’s aren’t paying attention to this.. the press is because its good copy.. but unless you are a hard core democrat, or just a majory political junkie.. what do you care about the Democratic nomination, let alone the general election in April?

If you are a republican, you aren’t voting for either of these schlubs, and if you are a radical dem (most active in the primary process, you are just going to defend your guy no matter what and fling mud at the other guy).. If you are a swing voter, by and large you are going to simply change the channel.

So far both dems only real strategy toward McCain seems to be trying to present him as a Bush Toadie.. which just doesn’t pass remotely the smell test.. and the swing voters by and large are not going to fall for that nonsense.

The same things that get many here upset about McCain, are the same things that are going to cause him to play very well in the general, and blunt the “bush’s toadie” arguments that the dems will throw.

When push comes to shove in the general election I cannot see either of these dems having a shot in hell of getting many swing voters.. HillBilly is a greater threat of the two, but she can’t win either, just make it not so bad of a pasting (provided of course the party doesn’t implode because she got the nomination when fauxbama won the “popular”, which I think it will do.)

Decades of “identity politics” by the dems are coming home to roost.
