Thousands of Chinese Americans protested outside CNN's offices in Hollywood this morning, calling for the dismissal of commentator Jack Cafferty, whose recent remarks about Chinese goods and the Beijing government inflamed a community already angry about international condemnations directed at the host country of the upcoming Olympics.
The protesters lined Sunset Boulevard from Cahuenga Boulevard to Wilcox Avenue chanting "Cafferty, Fire," and singing patriotic Chinese songs.
"We understand free speech," said Lake Wang, 39, of Thousand Oaks. "But what if Cafferty said this about other racial groups? I think he would be fired. I think he's jealous of China."
The anger mirrors the growing sense of nationalism that is taking hold around the world as the Olympics come to China. Much of that anger has been directed at foreign media, which some accuse of painting an unfairly negative image of China.
On the April 9 airing of "The Situation Room," Cafferty, in a discussion about China, said that goods from that county were "junk," and referred to the Chinese as "a bunch of goons and thugs."
CNN later said Cafferty's comments were directed at the Beijing government.
"In this occasion Jack was offering his strongly held opinion of the Chinese government, not the Chinese people," a CNN spokesman said in a statement. "It should be noted that over many years, Jack Cafferty has expressed critical comments on many governments, including the U.S. government and its leaders."

Rabbit Season..
Duck Season..
Cafferty Season, FIRE!
There sure are a lot of Chinese at the Olympic torch protests that are loyal to Beijing. Wonder how many of them
are actually Chinese agents.
Didn’t cnn already apologize?
chicoms and islam working to shut our free speech down. When that happens, they've won.
This is the fruit of modern liberal political correctness, which encourages minority groups to be in a perpetual state of offence in order to intimidate the “oppressive” dominant culture.
As much as I dislike Cafferty, CNN needs to hold the line here.
Ping
I thought his little rant was great. I think he deserves an award!
His bigger crime was daring to tell the truth. It’s something the media doesn’t do all that often.
Strange- we have Americans burning the American flag because of perceived imperialism and abuse of rights; Chinese people protest in this country about "saying" things about China. The world has really turned upside-down. I'd gladly pay for all the eco-fruitcakes to travel to China to see how they handle criticism of their eco policies and, at the same time, experience their protest policies. Maybe we could get the hollow-wood types to go over, too, and make movies critical of the Chinese government's policy of allowing only one birth per citizen. "Juno" would have a much different premise, right? "cheaper by the dozen" would be called "cheaper with only one".
Thinking of the one child policy- I hope all the protesters maintain that mindset while in our country. One child per couple. Period. We might as well ask the chinese protesters to live under the same conditions they defend.
We can call thse Chinese-”American” fifth columnists the modern day version of the 1930 Pro Hitler American Bund (I hope I remember the name right)
Oh, yeah! Sorry, I did get that memo, must've forgotten... :^)
It's really nauseating to see it here in the U.S. - and even more surprising when confronted with it by people you think are rational. People who work in the defense industry and have clearances, even.
But I won't name names. We'll let them out themselves as these Asian racist totalitarian groupies have.
Hell, they "own" significant portions of the nicest cities in the U.S.
The Western Addition of San Francisco, Cupertino, major portions of San Marino, Monterey Park, all over the San Gabriel Valley - you might as well consider those places now as colonies of the ChiComs.
You'd think they'd be against those guys - and some are. But in the end, if the Communist party makes a deal with them on property, they'll roll right over for them - ethnic solidarity and all that.
Calling them Americans is a joke. The real anti-Communist refugees landed here a long time ago, and the rest are just opportunists who never disconnected with their buddies back home, and never will.
There's a really easy way to test all this. Have a draft, combined with an Asian war. See how many of them pack up and split for one of the countries with significant Chinese ethnic populations.
Oh wait. We already have a war going on. And the battalions of ethnic Han dudes on the front lines in Karbala are where....?
Decent people would not send dead threats, and hack someone’s website that they don’t agree with. Those are criminal acts. What else should people call?
Yeah, there sure are a lot of them...

The anger mirrors the growing sense of nationalism......the bogus rationalizations about free speech mirror those of the shiite-heads and other Muzzie jerkoffs who want the real Mohammed cartoons thrown down the memory hole in part because of the fake Mohammed cartoons concocted by mullahs.
