Now that big corporate lobbyists know they can't get amnesty for the millions of cheap laborers they have imported illegally, they are pushing to increase the number of so-called high-skilled workers by raising the cap of H-1B visas. The pressure is on the House of Representatives to pass an increase soon, most likely in the form of the SKIL Act (H.R. 1930), sponsored by Rep. John Shadegg (R-AZ), usually a conservative ally.
There are three reasons why Big Business wants to increase foreign workers:
* H-1Bers are paid much less than Americans
* The influx of H-1Bers depresses the "prevailing wage" for all computer techies and engineers
* H-1Bers are tied to their visa- sponsoring company (much like indentured servants), therefore preventing them from becoming entrepreneurs or competitors
Currently, the H-1B cap is 85,000 visas annually. The SKIL Act would propose an increase of 20% each year if the cap is reached, importing up to 1.5 million underpaid workers by 2013.
Meanwhile, U.S. engineers and computer techies are available to fill the positions. A major study made by the Pratt School of Engineering at Duke University found that there is no shortage of U.S. engineers. Eighty percent of respondents to a Pratt survey say U.S. engineering jobs are filled within 4 months, and 88 percent didn't offer signing bonuses.
As graduation season begins, help protect U.S. engineers and computer experts looking for a job by calling or emailing your Representative today! Let them know you oppose importing underpaid foreign workers!
We have the best government money can buy, and it does!
The only remedy I can think of is direct democracy — a giant nationwide town-meeting on the internet. Congressional statutes should be subject to approval of the people before they take effect.
Increasing the number of H-1B visas has adversely effected the IT industry considerably. It is another method to essentially erase our borders.
The republicans want businesses to make more money, the dems want more dem voters. Both are hurting us real bad. Both parties are crooked.
I have posted this proposal before:
1. Instead of the first 85,000 applicants, admit the 85,000 applicants with the highest salary. You want high-skilled, you’ve got them.
2. Allow the visa holders to resign from the sponsor’s job and take another position after 3 months. They are paying market salaries, right?
These two changes would show what this program is really being used for.
Rumor has it that AT&T is ready to axe about 3,000 workers. In the past it is stated that it cannot get good technical workers—I wonder if the forthcoming announcement has anything to do with the governments latest push.
Hell, they import h-ibers for every damn think some halfas= attorney can make a big enough lie about. Welders, truck drivers, etc, etc. It's all about lowering wages and making the corporate president a bigger salary.
HOOVER AND EISENHOWER
Here is something that should be of great interest for you to pass around.
I didnt know of this until it was pointed out to me. But, back during the Great Depression, President Herbert Hoover ordered the deportation of all illegal aliens in order to make jobs available to American citizens that desperately needed work.
And then again in 1954, President Dwight Eisenhower deported 13 million Mexican nationals! The program was called Operation Wetback so that American WWII and Korean veterans had a better chance at jobs. It took 2 years, but they deported them!
Now, if they could deport the illegal back then, they can sure do it today!! If you have doubts about the veracity of this information, enter Operation Wetback into your favorite search engine and confirm it for your self.
Reminder. Dont forget to pay your taxes... 50 million illegal aliens are depending on you!
Let’s clean out congress
And they ask me why I am not a Republican anymore....
Truth be told, we send hundreds of thousands of very talented college educated in our system back to their home countries every year because the H1B quotas are so low. These are productive folks who have more American spirit than the average Joe who thinks it is all owed to him.
I have a small business that is trying to keep two wonderful young men at our employ by getting them (we hope) H1B visas.
Some criticize when we have these discussions of raising the H1B quotas and then complain bitterly when the jobs follow these young educated people to their home countries. Particularly, India...think about it for a while. The conservative position is to increase the number of visas available so that there are not artificial barriers to the market...
What skills do they have that you have been unable to find in native workers.
It's cheap wages, fella, whether here or in India. It's a lose-lose situation for ITers - suppress the wages here or train your competition ove there.
Bingo!
The H1B program is nothing more or less than indentured servitude writ large and modern.
There’s nothing wrong with immigration. In fact, the levels should be increased substantially.
What state do you live in? Obviously not one that borders Mexico.
Wrong. I live in Texas.
Near record low unemployment and on the verge of a recession. Perfect time to bring in thousands of skilled foreign workers. /s
