Road Map to Defeat (Liberal Take Barf)
New York Times ^ | 19 April 2008 | By BOB HERBERT

Posted on 04/19/2008 4:31:04 AM PDT by shrinkermd

...Now comes 2008, a can’t-lose year if there ever was one. A united Democratic Party should be able to win this election in a walk. The economy is terrible and getting worse. The Republicans are demoralized. John McCain is no J.F.K. And the country wants to elect a Democrat.

So what are the Democrats doing? The Clintons are running around with flamethrowers, gleefully trying to incinerate the prospects of the party’s leading candidate, Barack Obama.

Senator Obama, for his part, seems to have lost sight of the unifying message that proved so compelling early in his campaign and has stumbled into weird cultural predicaments that have caused some people to rethink his candidacy.

While some of those predicaments raise legitimate concerns (his former pastor, his comments in San Francisco) and some do not (stupid questions about wearing a flag pin), he has allowed them to fester unnecessarily. The way for a candidate to eventually change the subject is to offer policy prescriptions so creative and compelling that they generate excitement among the electorate and can’t be ignored by the press.

Voters want more from Senator Obama. He’s given a series of wonderful speeches, but he has to add more meat to those rhetorical bones. He needs to be clear about where he wants to lead this country and how he plans to do it. That’s how a candidate defines himself or herself.

Instead, Mr. Obama is allowing the Clintons and the news media to craft a damaging persona of him as some kind of weak-kneed brother from another planet, out of touch with mainstream America, and perhaps a loser.

Wednesday night’s debate in Philadelphia may have been a sorry exercise in journalism, but even many of Senator Obama’s own supporters were disappointed with his lackluster performance

As Rush puts it, "they can't tell the truth about their policies and goals...they would lose every election..."

That is the problem they face and for which they plan to conceal with a blanket of silence.

He doesn’t dare offer the policy prescriptions he would undertake if elected. He’s at least smart enough to know that they won’t fly and will cost him the election so he’s stuck on hope and change and that’s getting a little old and tarnished.

At least this part is true. :)

The economy is terrible and getting worse...

While we are in the middle of the greatest economic expansion in American history with a low unemployment rate.

Yawn.

My favorite part of the rat mantra about why they will win is this bull shiite about the bad economy. In the rat's child like mind it works like this: When the Republicans run the House and the Senate and the economy goes bad, blame the Republicans BUT when the economy goes bad and the Democrats run the House and the Senate blame the Republicans!
When the comparisons between the state of the economy under the GOP and now under the rat come out ( 2.17 gas and highest consumer confidence in history for starters) the rat will be lucky to keep his puny 22% push poll inflated rating. We lost the House with a 36% rating. Note to ratmedia nitwits lurking here: please take off your shoes and count your toes to figure out the math if need be.

He needs to be clear about where he wants to lead this country and how he plans to do it.

That's the last thing he can do. And that's his dilemma. He doesn't have answers; just his vision. And that vision is socialist and racist.

The same holds true for Clinton. They're the same just to slightly varying degree. Both cut from the same cloth. Neither one can stand close scrutiny.

The NYT and other liberal media outlets keep pounding away at the “stupid flag pin” question. That’s okay when they are preaching to the liberal democrats’

When we get to the general election, however, most folks are going to look at it along with his Wife’s comments concerning the country, his associations with a known domestic terrorist and a rabid anti-American preacher. His contempt for small town Americans and his refusal to show respect to the flag during the National Anthem will also be taken into account.

I think this election cycle is going to be VERY entertaining. Enjoy the moment, because no matter who wins...conservatism will lose.

This is the very reason these stupid ass DBM/dems don't get the majority of American people. We have pride in our country! At the very least we want to know if our elected officials do!

Obama is really making it easy now. When a dem tells me Obama has a more liberal voting record than Kennedy to convince me that's why they want to vote for Hillary, I just stand back in astonishment.

Actually not a bad effort for the Slimes’s houseboy. He sounds disgusted enough nwith his party to tell the truth about the ‘rats sorry record of presidential candidates and acknowledging Obama’s weakness as a candidate. he of course is fixated on race and misunderstands Obama (he’s not “weak” he’s dangerous) but overall a pretty objective measure he pathetic state of ‘rat politics.

Obama can't really be honest. An honest liberal is a contradiction terms. Even Bob Herbert knows that and with all they have got going for them, the Democrats look set to lose the White House again in November.

Well, the only guy doing that right now is McCain:

Obama’s phony campaign is starting to come undone.
“As Rush puts it, “they can’t tell the truth about their policies and goals...they would lose every election...””

Rush is right, as usual. Another liberal-who-pretends-to-not-be-as-liberal.

Pray for victory.

Bob Herbert sounds bitter.

He should take up guns, religion and xenophobia. That’s apparently the rage among small town America, if Obama is to be believed. It might do him some good.

If Obama loses, the most left-wing nominee ever will be prevented from getting into the White House.

The Leftists in this country will be beside themselves.
It will REALLY HURT them. A billion dollars of liberal cash is behind Obama’s campaign.

let it happen and USA will become another France.

Stop it cold and conservatism will survive to fight another day.

Stopping the left is a victory for conservatives, perhaps the biggest victory we conservatives could have for some time.
