Obama: Let's campaign, not have more debates

WASHINGTON (CNN) -- Sen. Barack Obama suggested Thursday that he doesn't see any point in having another debate with Democratic rival Sen. Hillary Clinton.

Wednesday's debate on ABC may be the final face-off between Sens. Hillary Clinton and Barack Obama.

Clinton has agreed to a debate next week, but Obama has not accepted the invitation.

At an appearance in Raleigh, North Carolina, Obama said he has a lot of campaigning to do in a limited amount of time.

Obama said he had agreed to an earlier debate, but Clinton declined that one.

"I'll be honest with you, we've now had 21," he said. "It's not as if we don't know how to do these things. I could deliver Sen. Clinton's lines; she could, I'm sure, deliver mine."

Obama said he has to look at his schedule, considering the upcoming primaries.

The two Democrats went head-to-head in a debate Wednesday night on ABC.

During the first part of that debate, the candidates largely rehashed the controversies that have marked their past six weeks on the campaign trail.

Much of the fire was leveled at Obama, who once again answered questions about controversial statements by his former pastor, the Rev. Jeremiah Wright, and his own comments that some rural Pennsylvanians are "bitter."

Obama said it took too long for them to address anything substantial.

"Last night, we set a new record, because it took us 45 minutes before we even started talking -- until we started talking about a single issue that matters to the American people," he said.

I guessed it right! He did such a bad job on unscripted and hardball questions I KNEW his handlers wouldn't let him go through that again.

Wuss...

“I don’t think well under pressure. Most of my positions are indefensible. And my past is pretty embarassing. So let’s agree to just let me read off teleprompters, OK?”

What a nancy-boy.

When he falls and gets a boo-boo, does Michelle kiss it for him and make it all better?

If only he had some clothes to wear.

It is not good for him to be exposed for what he really is, (an ignorant, vacant, America hating liberal).

“I could deliver Sen. Clinton’s lines; she could, I’m sure, deliver mine.”

Sure they could because they both are lying and saying whatever their handlers think will help them get elected.

it took us 45 minutes before we even started talking -- until we started talking about a single issue that matters to the American people

There were many issues brought up in the beginning that mattered to me.

How dare he question my patriotism!!

I just can’t believe people who watched that debate couldn’t see how unprepared this guy is to lead a nation. Hell he could barely be CIC of Aruba during a hurricane, much less the US during a time of war.

I guess he prefers getting his ass kissed by the press on a constant basis.

This is the equivelant of screaming “Uncle”. He gets some tough questions (finally!!) and now wants to take his ball and go home. If he can’t stand up to George Stephanopolous how’s he going to stand up to terrorists. Oh, that’s right he’ll negotiate.

I am a contrarian,,I agree with him. The debates aresilly. If hard questions are asked, everyone whines and screams. Otherwise they are bland, just two people arguing about teeny details.

I don’t want to see any more. ANd I thought the last debate was the first with questions that were tough,,look at the whining and screaming.

Neither of them is acceptable and all the debates do is let us know how unacceptable they are. Why bother us any more.

Personally, I have seen more than enough Clinton/Obama debates and I suspect that the country has also. It is time to end that stage and commence the real debate, a series of hard debates with either Obama or Clinton and John McCain.

If/when Obama makes it into the general election campaign, he'll want 3 debates a day against McCain.

What a whiner. Can’t handle the tough questions. Just what we need in a leader.

If he thought the questions were irrelevant, he should have told the moderators and told them to get to the important issues. But he didn’t.

Because there's just not enough time until November? Or because McCain's such a great representative of conservatism?

I don't think she was proud of her country Wednesday night. I'll bet she was really PO'ed at Whitey.
