The war in Iraq has become "a major debacle" and the outcome "is in doubt" despite improvements in security from the buildup in U.S. forces, according to a highly critical study published Thursday by the Pentagon's premier military educational institute.

“Had this “report” said that the surge was working and the U.S.A. was winning, the “media” would have treated it as though it didn’t even exist.”

In fact the paper says

“For many analysts (including this one), Iraq remains a “must win”, but for many others, despite the obvious progress under General David Petraeus and the surge, it now looks like a can’t win.”

The report was printed and “released” this month but it was completed and reported on last fall. The dedication was made November 2007, and the second sentence in the main text begins, “As of fall 2007...”

This report/opinion column does not even take into account effects of “the surge”, and is already out of date.

Again, you make the paranoia charge. what does pointing out the nature of your edits have to do with paranoia?

Time to stop acting like a troll if you have anything useful to say.

"At the time the report was written last fall"

It explicitly states that the report was written last fall in the article. This is pre-surge and almost a year old.

Lastly, the folks at this institute are politicized or morons if they believe that we're in a "major war" based on casualties or economics

They're liberals so I guessing morons.

One might well imagine a think-tank in ancient Macedonia writing that Alexander’s invasion of the Persian empire was a debacle when he was bogged down with the siege of Tyre; or as his small army faced the Persian hordes across the fields at Gaugemela.

No less did many Romans, and Rome’s Latin allies, consider the war with Hannibal a debacle following the massive defeats at Lake Trasimeno and at Cannae.

Wars are won, not in the class room, nor among the professorial class. They are won, in the end, by courage, determination and perseverance. If we are fair-weather patriots, the war will not be won. However, our troops are of sterner stuff. God bless them.

“So? Powell’s and Tenet’s boss was Bush. What does this tell us?”

Why don’t you try reading the post I was replying to, and then maybe you’ll be able to figure it out yourself.

The post mentioned that Collins had once worked for a foundation headed by Gary Hart, an inference of where his allegiance might lie. How does that contrast to his tenure with Feith?

“Collins retired in ‘98. Perhaps our poster is familiar with something that we’re not.”

That’s why I asked him. But if he doesn’t he’s just muddying the water by making an unfounded accusation. I’ve been reading Collin’s paper and there’s plenty that supports Bush and the decision to invade:

Agree. A simple way of what I was saying: The report says the war was not smooth and easy. So then they end it by they themselves quoting Churchill who says war is NEVER smooth and easy.

Its like the quote from Jean Sibelius

“Pay no attention to what the critics say. A statue has never been erected in honor of a critic.”
