Reuters footage released on Wednesday shows the final moments of agency cameraman Fadel Shana as he films an IDF tank firing, moments before apparently being hit by the shell.
Subsequent footage shows the Reuters jeep on fire, and Shana's body lying next to it. Shana's jeep was marked "press" and witnesses said the cameraman was wearing an identifying flak jacket.
Reuters Editor-in-Chief David Schlesinger has called for an investigation of Wednesday's incident.

Warning! This is a high-volume ping list.
Given the name of the cameraman, it could have been a suicide video.
Does Israel need to put up signs stating the necessity to stay away from the front of their tanks?
It's probably Jimmy (I won't talk to Fox news) Carter's fault anyway.
A fitting target, since the press is generally the enemy!
The IDF has occasionally had to deal with “ambulances” filled with armed men. I can’t fault them for firing on a vehicle marked “Press”. Stuff like that happens in a war zone.
I don't see a problem. The Israelis obviously had no choice, since subject was in a vehicle bearing the markings of an enemy force.
I call 10lbs of BS in a little brown paper bag.
Running a video cam?
We’ve identified on a number of occasions, going back at least to the fall of Baghdad, that a cameraman and a jihadi with a shoulder-launched anti-tank missile/rocket, look the same from the perspective of someone on the receiving end.
It’s best not to embed with jihadis.
The children of satanallah are COMMANDED to lie, cheat, burn, rape, and pillage, in any manner possible. It's all right there in their terrorist training manual the queeranus.
Ban the queeeran! Dismantle the dome! Send the sons of Ishmael back home!
And the fact that “thousands” of them showed up for his funeral should give us pause.
Hey, Mordecai! Is that a camera or rocket launcher?
Don’t ask stupid questions, Shlomo! Shoot now!!!
Why does this look like a Far Side caption?
From the video it looks like the vehicle was behind vegitation, blocked by view from the tank. I bet the camera man popped up to shoot video and was mistaken for a bad guy. I’m sure from a distance that a video camrea on a shoulder would look a lot like an anti-tank weapon.
Reuters reporter? What’s the problem?
You can tell this crap to Ahmad Shah Massoud who was assassinated by Osama Ben Laden using assassins posing as journalist. Very little was said at the time in the way of condemning this practice.
A camera on the shoulder can look like a weapon when viewed through the fog of the battlefield, especially one in close proximity to the enemy.
TARGET! Cease Fire.
Don't embed with jihadis. Don't point dangerous-appearing things at soldiers.
We went through all this here on FR in 2003 when an M1A1 killed a cameraman shooting from a Baghdad hotel, when we had just entered Baghdad and things were still hot and hairy.
Marking the vehicle on a horizontal surface facing the sky with a little "TV" and then aiming something that could resemble a rocket launcher at a tank. Splat.
