What a sordid mess this cult has created...and our political leaders seem unable to stop the madness.
Maybe you can answer this: when they say “wives” they cannot be talking about legal wives right? I mean polygamy is illegal in this country still right?
I know that many Muslim men have multiple women who attend them but only one legal wife. In this country I mean. They bring them here by saying they are sisters or cousins and then just install them in their apartments/homes.

Hundreds of teenagers also have been kicked out or run away from the polygamous sect. Known as the "Lost Boys," some have wound up living on the streets or crashing in crowded apartments. Some have turned to drugs or crime.
Not "hundreds of teenagers"; rather, "hundreds of teenaged boys". No female—and most especially no teenaged female—is ever expelled from any of those sect compounds. And the boys are kicked out for the same reason that a mature male lion banishes young male lions from his pride: to get rid of the competition for breeding females. The old male perverts don't want any competition at all. Completely understandable and completely pathetic.

I agree with your comparison. Imagine if Charles Manson had passed himself of as FDLS with thousands of vulnerable women and hundreds of lecherous old men. He could have probably stayed out of jail by cloaking himself in religious utterances.
These are not pious men & women. They are evil personified - holding fragile brainwashed women as prisoners and female children as sex slaves.

That depends. May modern day polygamists do not even bother to marry under civil law. Often they view marriage as a religious matter of which the state has no control. As such, they feel no compulsion to seek the blessing of the state for their union, esp since their customs contradict law.
Others marry and then divorce the first wife under civil law but consider themselves married according to their religious believes. They then proceed through the next series of wives in like manner.
I caught several of the women from the sect on Fox & Friends this morning. To say they spoke in monotone and were robotic, would be an understatement.

And so Islam--there's not enough women for every man to have several, so the young stags have to be driven off.

Yes, and please keep in mind that these so-called marriages are not legally performed. They are “sealed” in their temple, and never get recorded (each polygamous man has only one legal wife, all others are never made official to try to escape bigamy charges.
Then when the girl gets pregnant, if they can swing it, she is sent to the welfare office to get aid including WIC; and, as they say, “bleed the beast.”
Much of the cult’s income comes from welfare checks. The more kids, the bigger the check.
I’ve wondered if the RICO laws might apply here also.
It’s not a marriage if she had not choice in the matter. Not if she’s given to her ‘husband’ like a bag of cheetos at half-time. She’s not married nor is she a ‘real’ wife.
