World's oldest living tree discovered in Sweden(!?!)

The world's oldest recorded tree is a 9,550 year old spruce in the Dalarna province of Sweden

The spruce tree has shown to be a tenacious survivor that has endured by growing between erect trees and smaller bushes in pace with the dramatic climate changes over time.

For many years the spruce tree has been regarded as a relative newcomer in the Swedish mountain region.

”Our results have shown the complete opposite, that the spruce is one of the oldest known trees in the mountain range,” says Leif Kullman, Professor of Physical Geography at Umea University.

A fascinating discovery was made under the crown of a spruce in Fulu Mountain in Dalarna. Scientists found four “generations” of spruce remains in the form of cones and wood produced from the highest grounds.

The discovery showed trees of 375, 5,660, 9,000 and 9,550 years old and everything displayed clear signs that they have the same genetic makeup as the trees above them. Since spruce trees can multiply with root penetrating braches, they can produce exact copies, or clones.

The tree now growing above the finding place and the wood pieces dating 9,550 years have the same genetic material. The actual has been tested by carbon-14 dating at a laboratory in Miami, Florida, USA.

Previously, pine trees in North America have been cited as the oldest at 4,000 to 5,000 years old.

In the Swedish mountains, from Lapland in the North to Dalarna in the South, scientists have found a cluster of around 20 spruces that are over 8,000 years old.

Although summers have been colder over the past 10,000 years, these trees have survived harsh weather conditions due to their ability to push out another trunk as the other one died.

”The average increase in temperature during the summers over the past hundred years has risen one degree in the mountain areas,” explains Leif Kullman.

Therefore, we can now see that these spruces have begun to straighten themselves out. There is also evidence that spruces are the species that can best give us insight about climate change.

The ability of spruces to survive harsh conditions also presents other questions for researchers.

Have the spruces actually migrated here during the Ice Age as seeds from the east 1,000 kilometres over the inland ice that that then covered Scandinavia? Do they really originate from the east, as taught in schools? “My research indicates that spruces have spent winters in places west or southwest of Norway where the climate was not as harsh in order to later quickly spread northerly along the ice-free coastal strip,” says Leif Kullman.

“In some way they have also successfully found their way to the Swedish mountains.”

Druids would consider it the original god?

Although summers have been colder over the past 10,000 years, these trees have survived harsh weather conditions due to their ability to push out another trunk as the other one died.

What fascinates me about trees is their ability to act as a coherent whole, rather than as an agglomeration of discrete parts. Trees lack a brain or control system comparable to a nervous system in mammals. So what drives the "ability to push out another trunk as the other one died"?

I've also noticed an interesting phenomenon in trees when a new house lot is carved out of the woods. A tree that was formerly surrounded by other trees is left standing alone. Over the course of several years the tree's upper branches will die off, while the tree shoots out lower branches. It takes less energy to pump water half-way up the tree, so this phenomena makes sense for the health of the tree as a whole. But how does this mechanism work? How do scientists explain this phenomenon?

These phenomena seem to me to be evidence of the vegatative form or " vegatative soul."

This looks to be a picture of it, from sciencedaily.com.

God made the tree. He programmed the DNA sequence. It works. I do not question how or why.

Pruning the lower limbs of trees, lower than about 6 feet, will stimulate new growth at the top and bush out the sides.............

Just guessing here, but perhaps (1) the lower branches shoot out, because they can ... thanks to being able to see light where they couldn't before, and then (2) the higher branches die off, because they are getting less nutrition from the roots than before ... thanks to the lower branches stealing it.

“9,550 year old spruce ... with the dramatic climate changes over time.”

Not possible, the world has told us America causes global climate changes.

“The world's oldest recorded tree is a 9,550 year old spruce in .... Sweden”

Well, in Sweden, the sun does not go down in the summer and the sun does not appear in the winter. Sooooo, From Jan. 1 to Dec. 31 in Sweden, it's like 3 years already!

Therefore a 9,550 year old tree in Sweden would only be 3,183 years old in the US!

How on earth could a tree be older than the earth itself?

Thats an easy one. Scientists, with fool proof science, found that by using the fool-proof technology of carbon 14 dating combined with the foolishly simple, error free science of dendrochronolgy, have conclusively shown that the trees are much older than anything else on earth. So put away your doubts, for THEY know all the answers, and we mere fools are not allowed to question THEM. And besides that, an equally wise and benevolent journalist is reporting these findings! /s

An independent study of carbion 14 dating and of dendrochronology, combined with a healthy skepticism, will cause you to be very cautious with regard to bold claims like these.

You would think that the remarkable part of the story is that the spuces tend to migrate to Norway in the winter !?!

Maybe they are Jewish trees!...............

Could you back up this statement concerning carbon-14 dating with some facts please.

And don't just cut and past from creationist websites. They lie.

(Make it good; I have some background in the field.)

That really happened here in the US - in the white mountains of Nevada there was a tree, affectionately dubbed WPN-114, they wanted to age. Often this is done by extracting thin cores, which doesn’t harm the tree, but on this occasion the precision drill bit broke, so rather than wait, they just lobbed it down in chunks. Bristlecone pine.

A thinking (and yet still literal) theologian would answer)the same way Adam was 35 when created: God created the world “old.”

It was time traveling Republican americans that did that.

They went back in SUVs and also drank beer and farted.
