GOP should try Gregg Cunningham / Jason Lewis -(KTLK radio-MN) 2008 = Tried the Rest, Now the Best!
http://www.freerepublic.com/~goldengate/ ^ | April 16, 2008 | FR: Golden Gate

Posted on 04/16/2008 6:51:36 AM PDT by Golden Gate

Here in mid-April 2008, both the Republican and the Democratic Parties need Fresh Faces and New Talent as they select their Nominees for President and Vice-President.   Both Parties need to find some new Candidates.   While the Democrat voters need to start a nationwide talent search for suitable nominees, conservative Republicans may have two of the best men readily available.   I would like to present why I think Gregg Cunningham and Jason Lewis (the conservative radio show host, MN) could be the men and the candidates that the GOP needs leading the campaign, and that the United States needs in top leadership.

After presenting this suggestion, I would like to make an assessment of the GOP Primary 2008.   Because of the process, and the results, I think there are good reasons why conservatives in the GOP should continue to look for suitable nominees.   This does not have to be done in a way to tear down the current ~nominee~, nor to tear the GOP apart.   While it is obvious that the primaries are soon to be over, the need remains to adequately and vigorously present the conservative message to the GOP voters, and to the country as a whole.   Instead of damaging the GOP, this idea could strenghten the GOP and increase the chances of the eventual GOP nominees in the November General Election.

I think that it was sometime in Feb 08 that Michaeal Reagan made a comment: ~ The Democrats have a rock star; the GOP needs a Rock Star candidate.~

I am suggesting two people who I believe would be the Dream Team candidates for Conservatism, the GOP, and for the United States of America. They could also be a great benefit for Democrats because they would show Democrats and Union members what American leaders should be doing in government.

From April 16th, conservatives need to work together to continue presenting the conservative message in this Election 2008. Again, not to tear the GOP apart, or to tear the current ~nominee~ down, - but to continue to present an important message to the voters.

Before we get into a search for `rock stars', we have to discuss what kind of person we want in high office, in the highest office. My views will be discussed at the end of this statement. My quickest summary to get the discussion started is this:

We should start with character, integrity, and temperment, and the person's experience.

Some will put emphasis on executive experience in government or business. I understand that, but I waver on that. The good manager who chooses the wrong policies in government doesn't impress me or do any of us any good.

One common opinion is to choose the person with the best executive experience to be elected and in charge, and then to have those who know the issues to be the advisors. I'm at a point where I want those who have the best understanding and the right answers to be the ones who are making the final decisions.

And then there is the matter of communicating with leaders in our government and foreign governments, and with the American people, the media, and the opposition. Who can participate in an energetic campaign, and also the matter of "electability".

With that brief summary, I confidently move on to introduce two people that I believe would be the Dream Team candidates for Conservatism, the GOP, and for the United States of America. They would also be a great benefit to Democrats because they would show Democrats and Union members what good American leaders should be doing in government.

My favorite person who should consider being a candidate for high public office is said to be "too conservative" to be elected in California. (This has also been said about Duncan Hunter.) True, or false? Can a candidate be "too conservative", or is it that the conservative "movement", the conservative media and (FR) forums are NOT doing an adequate / effective job of working together and presenting conservatism to the culture?

Talking about rock stars, I beleive that we will find that Gregg Cunningham is rock solid. Please read Gregg's civilian and military bio below and see if you agree. Those who know Gregg will agree that he has the passion and the skills to run an energetic campaign. He has traveled the country many times speaking to groups, churches, and at schools and universities. I believe that he has the character and the qualifications to serve as the President of the United States.

And secondly, I would like to introduce a second person, Jason Lewis, who is a leading conservative spokesman in the United States today. His profession is as a Radio Talk Show Host, having returned to the Twin Cities, MN.

Jason Lewis clearly understands the issues that face our country, and is one of the premeire communicators of the conservative message in America today. Jason could very easily be the GOP's "Rock Star" who we need to have front and center and as "The Main Event" in a campaign. Jason Lewis should receive full consideration as the GOP nominee for Vice-President.

GOP conservative should consider "Gregg Cunningham / Jason Lewis 2008"!

When you read Gregg Cunningham's civilian bio, notice he is a former two-term Member of The Pennsylvania House of Representatives. The Pennsylvania Primary is one week from today - April 22.

(Note about PA write-ins, the info that I have for the Dems is that no petitions are required for write-in candidates. I'm not sure of the rules for the GOP. -??)

Jason Lewis has returned to the Twin Cities, MN. who are hosting the Republican National Convention this summer.

Gregg Cunningham   earned a BA degree from The Pennsylvania State University and a JD degree from The Ohio Northern University School of Law where he served as executive editor of the Law Review.  He is the co-author of a handbook on attorney misconduct entitled “Ethics And Discipline In Ohio” (Ohio State Bar Foundation, 1976).

He is a former two-term Member of The Pennsylvania House of Representatives where he introduced legislation which ended public funding for abortion. He was also a prime sponsor of the Abortion Control Act which was litigated before the U.S. Supreme Court in Thornburgh v. The American College of Obstetrics and Gynecology. He later helped direct the ballot initiative campaign which stopped public funding for abortion in Colorado.

During the first Reagan Administration he served as a political appointee in the U.S. Department of Education and later in The Office of Legislative Affairs with the U.S. Department of Justice in Washington, D.C. He next served as a Special Assistant U.S. Attorney for Los Angeles.

He is a retired U.S. Air Force Reserve Colonel with six years of active duty service and twenty-five years in the ready reserve. He is also a decorated veteran of the Vietnam War.

  FYI -     Lois Cunningham, R.N.

Lois Cunningham is a public health nurse with a background in school nursing and maternal/fetal health. She helped establish two crisis pregnancy medical clinics in Los Angeles County (in Glendale and Hollywood) and served from 1988 to 1995 as the Executive Director.

Mrs. Cunningham now serves as the Director of Crisis Pregnancy Outreach for the Center for Bio-Ethical Reform. In this capacity, she offers consultation to crisis pregnancy centers across the country, training them to convert to medical clinics and to be more effective in reaching and meeting the needs of abortion-vulnerable women. She is a frequent conference presenter for National Institute of Family and Life Advocates (N.I.F.L.A.), a national organization which provides legal services for crisis pregnancy centers. In addition, Mrs. Cunningham is a regular seminar presenter for ALSUP (Advanced Life Support for Unplanned Pregnancies), an association which trains physicians and allied health care professionals to care for patients facing crisis pregnancies. This cutting-edge course is modeled after other advanced life support courses which have long been integrated into medical and nursing training.

Mrs. Cunningham directed a task force to establish Choices Medical Clinic which opened December 6, 1999 and is located in Wichita, Kansas. This crisis pregnancy medical clinic is located next door to the largest abortion facility in the Midwest, one which specializes in late term abortions.

CBR Director and Deputy Director, Gregg & Lois Cunningham (husband and wife) fight abortion through adoption.

Our wonderful little daughters, Annie, Alice and Amy Cunningham, were abandoned at birth, along roads in various parts of China, because they had cleft lip, cleft palate and other developmental defects. They are unbelievably smart, funny and very pro-life.

Some of these cable “reality”-type shows will put on all sorts of medical procedures as, I guess, some kind of “educational entertainment”. but never an abortion. Gee, I wonder why?

To: Emmett McCarthy

There are two things the modern media won’t show: The actual reality of abortion, and an articulate black conservative.

From April 15th to and through the Republican National Convention... Not to tear the GOP apart, or to tear the ~nominee~ down...

I think that the people in the United States have not seen the best from conservative candidates and leaders. The various conservative candidates have not got the job done. Have the various conservative candidates been in someway inadequate to run a good, effective, and successful conservative campaign? Or, is it that the American people / GOP voters are just not interested in conservative principles?

Some preliminary thoughts, and then Point / Counter Point -

What I would like to see conservatives do in the remaining GOP Primary states, and through to the convention...

Nothing says that we have to be clumsy about it. Interest and activisim, - Yes. Tear the Party apart? - No. Just checking our options, testing the waters, and putting forward some fresh faces and new talent for the public and media to take a look at and to consider.

~ ~>> ~In mid-April, the primaries are about over, the GOP decision has been made. Accept it, leave it alone.

Assesment (April 15th) - how the GOP got its presumptive nominee... and now what... options...

More to write, but to get this started, on to what others are `saying' / writing...

  ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~

Point / Counter Point:

First the obvious:

It is hard to see how an upstart campaign by a Conservative independend could have any other effect but hurting John McCain and electing the Democrat in November.

Now, there are a lot of folks here at FR who seem to think that is a good idea. I am not one of them.

[Following - Some of my oringinal notes on this discussion:]

Is this about some conservatives being sore losers? Maybe for some. Maybe there is a lot more to it.

Their was something really wierd about the GOP Primary 2008...

We can discuss & anaylize it, try to determine what it is / was...

Someone on FR described the 08 GOP Primary Election as "the worst ever!".

Because of this, I propose the following, what you find posted on this page.

To have new candidates / spokesmen step forward to adequately present the conservative message to the GOP, the media, and the American people.

We need to help search for the best GOP VP nominee.

We need to help the GOP ~nominee~ get ready for the Fall election. Or, maybe GOP voters and delegates will change their mind at the Republican National Convention.

  ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~

1. Some how, some way, conservatives were not ready for '08. Did anyone have a plan? Do we know how to work together? If you are still complaining about the ~nominee~, what is your plan?

2. The conservative hosts & commentators. Did we trust them to help get us the best candidate possible, and did they let us down?

3. Early GOP primary states were moderate / liberal, and Dems voters could cross over and vote for the moderate / lib GOP candidates.

4. Did the best candidate win in the GOP? Is the prospective nominee acceptable, or should we look for another?

5. Early on, there was a lot of conservative rancor toward John McCain. Does he still deserve it?

6. What happened to the best conservative candidates? Trouble with the media, or not enough money? Was the problem media, money, or was it a lack of message? Were the conservative candidates betrayed in any way?

7. other...?

Democrats - The Democratic Party needs to dramatically change themselves before they can offer to lead others. I find the remaining two candidates to be unimpressive and uninspiring. All they have to offer is the continued Democratic mediocrity and corruption of the past. There are currently no prominent Democratic leaders or candidates who deserve our support or our vote.   And NO, I don't want Gupper to come in and try to save the day.   He would be just another Democrat retread.   Let him keep busy as he pretends to save the planet.

Conservative Democrat voters need to begin a "Talent Search" in the states and local government for new leaders and candidates. We need to offer an alternative to the failed and corrupt Democratic socialism.

Delegates are now being selected for the 2008 Dem National Convention in Denver. What efforts can be made to encourage these delegates to abandon the failed policies of the Democratic Party and to finally see the importance of the adoption of some basic conservative values.

The GOP has clearly shown over several years it has and continues to diverge incrementally from conservatism in an effort to appease the socialist left to expand the voter and thereby win an election. The irony is the GOP is losing with such a strategy since it only empowers socialists who never intend to sacrifice their beliefs. The result is the merging of the Republican party with the socialist Democrats to he point where they are essentially one party.

The conservative cause can only advance outside the GOP by uniting under a conservative umbrella. Doing so will restore the two party system and prevent socialists in the GOP and Democrat parties from replacing our Democratic Republic with socialism.

I think MSM will turn vicious vis-a-vis McCain just as soon as the Democrat candidate is finally selected.

14 by arthurus

To ALL: =>> Duh, ya think?

I would expect them to also "turn vicious" on a good conservative nominee, however:

1. With McCain, - it'll be like lightening to John standing in water = ZAP!! - every chance they get. With McCain, I would expect `the mud is going to stick!'This is going to be McCain's Hilton II (politically speaking, of course).

2. I seriously doubt Gregg Cunningham / Jason Lewis -(KTLK radio-MN) 2008 have *any* "baggage", except what they stand for.

FWIW - One FReeper sent a FR mail and said that he would like to run for public office, but he "had more baggage that Delta Airlines".

HI - I'm John McCain! - I have MORE BAGGAGE THAN _*_________________*_!! VOTE FOR ME 2008!

I said in the article, we shouldn't ~tear down McCain~... He has the delegates, - is he the right choice? Were GOP voters led by the media? Will he `fly' after the convention? NOW in April / May IS THE TIME to be asking the hard questions. Actually, from April to the convention.

3. Go ahead media, Dems, etc. - (if you must, if you dare) Go ahead and attack Gregg Cunningham / Jason Lewis -(MN) for what they stand for. I expect that these are two of the most capable conservative people on the planet who will be able to effectively defend themselves from personal and political attacks.

Some other posts say the media is beginning some initial attacks on McC. Certainly, after the Dems select, McC's media honeymoon will be over.

#3 >> ...The conservative cause can only advance outside the GOP by uniting under a conservative umbrella.
Caution - ~ you can run but you can't hide ~ Many conservative Dems left & went to the GOP or indy. They didn't want to fight the Lefist Dems, so now they are in a fight for their lives against the moderate / leftist rino's.

I say the conservative Dems & conservative Union members are the 'missing link'. Not fossils, politics. No one responds to that, so I will say that the conservative Dems & conservative union members are the ... untapped pool of oil.

As / or IF conservatives continue to work the GOP, help out conservatives Dems & Union members as we try to inform & change the minds among Dem voters. Some / maybe Most all the Dem leaders won't ever change. But for the voters, people do change.

Conservatives in the GOP have been doing conservative political work a long time. You've got the info, facts, arguments, etc. that are needed to communicate the conservative message. Look to help moderate / conservative Dems to get average Dem voters to go center or even to the right.

This should be obvious, = I think that the more leftist the Dem Party has gone, the stronger the rino's get. I'm thinking if the Dems / media go center & a touch conservative, then rino's lose their ~`meaningful purpose / existence'~ - they should lose strength. They will either straighten up & fly right, or leave the GOP altogether.

If all GOP & Dem / Union Conservatives join the same `third party' - there's an idea. I just wanted us to be sure we have given it our best in the Dem & GOP before we leave. Some will say they have, and they have had enough, & they are `outta here!'.

Some / many have worked hard, have they / we worked the smartest?

In closing - I would like to see Gregg Cunningham / Jason Lewis as the Ticket 2008, the Main Event. I think that they could bring enough Dems around to have a conservative victory. AND, not to forget - wouldn't Gregg / Jason mega activate the conservative base in the GOP?
