On a related side note, there has been a spate of letters recently to the San Jose Mercury News complaining about Mallard Filmore, one of the few antidotes to Doonesbury. Then, surprisingly, several readers came to the defense of Mallard Filmore and accused the leftists of being intolerant of other views. Some of the conservatives pointed out they have had to endure Doonesbury for years and nobody has ever asked the paper to remove it.
