King's Niece: "Racism and Abortion Stem from the Same Poisonous Root"

ATLANTA, April 14, 2008 (LifeSiteNews.com) - Dr. Alveda King, Pastoral Associate of Priests for Life and niece of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., today said that racism and abortion are linked. Dr. King has, for the past two weeks been involved in commemorative events of the 40th anniversary of the death of her uncle Martin Luther King Jr. the famed leader of the civil rights movement.

"Abortion and racism are both symptoms of a fundamental human error," stated Dr. King. "The error is thinking that when someone stands in the way of our wants, we can justify getting that person out of our lives. Abortion and racism stem from the same poisonous root, selfishness."

"Of course, to get someone out of our way, we have to come up with rationales for doing so," added Dr. King. "We create the deceptions that the other person is less important, less worthy, less human. These pretenses help us feel a bit better about discriminating against someone because of his skin color or gestational age, but they're still lies and our actions are still wrong."

"The truth is that we are all humans belonging to only one race," said Dr. King. "Racial reconciliation can only mean that we reconcile to the truth that we are all one race of human beings created equal. Even though we have ethnic distinctions, those distinctions do not separate us from the human race any more than do our stage of development or state of physical dependency. We are all fully human. When we face this truth, there is no justification for treating those who look different than us as lesser beings. If we simply treat other people the way we'd like to be treated, racism, abortion, and other forms of inhumanity will be things of the past."

In a speech on the day of the 40th anniversary, Dr. King said: "The fight against abortion is a new frontier in the civil rights movement."

So, which is worse in your view?

That is an EXCELLENT question. Will you answer this one Hildy? Let's not forget that prior to your statements on this thread, you have never really said that abortion was wrong, in fact you've generally been quite supportive of it.

Why don't we put things in perspective:
- At the start of the Civil War, there were approximately 3.5 million slaves in the United States. Since 1973, approximately 17 MILLION black Americans have been aborted.

- During the era where lynchings were prominent in the United States (1880-1950) approximately 3500 black Americans were lynched. Today, abortuaries kill that many black Americans EVERY THREE DAYS.

- Just over 12% of Americans are black, ONE THIRD of abortion victims are black.

So, are you willing to answer the question? Can you even see the connection?

As I recall too, Hildy was all pro-Michael Schiavo in 2005.

Yes, blacks have nearly always bloc-voted except in 1952 when they spilt about evenly between Eisenhower and Stevenson.

What a great description of modern “liberalism”!

I have found that most (all) women who defend abortion this vehemently have had one and deep in their core know that it was an evil act.

There are two ways to handle this knowledge.

First, you could repent and seek forgiveness from God,

or, you could spend the rest of your life vehemently defending your “right” to do what you did.

Ah, so your position is not explainable.

It must be VERY coherent.

Heck, “liberalism” in general is all about selfishness -

GREED FOR THE UNEARNED.

At its core, “liberalism” is the total belief that no choices should have any consequences. And if consequences occur naturally, they must be alleviated at the cost of others (abortion is the ULTIMATE form of this).

Their masters 150 years ago were Democrats.

And continue to be.

Blacks are dhimmirats' "mascots".

ONE THIRD of abortion victims are black

Assuming you don't count the woman as a victim as well. She's been convinced that this is the best possible "solution" for her, and has to live with it from then on.

One dead, one injured for life.

Assuming you don't count the woman as a victim as well.

Actually, if you presume the race of the mother and the slaughtered baby to be the same, the ratio of one third stays the same.

However, there are some women who seem to rejoice in their infanticide. They are either totally heartless or have incredible amounts of repressed guilt that they are incapable of facing.

It's worth noting that Dr. Alveda King HAS had more than one abortion herself and yet she is considered a leader of the pro-life community, NONE of the other pro-life leaders condemn her and she has saved untold lives BECAUSE of her experience.

Romans 8:28
And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love him, who have been called according to his purpose.

Women who have had abortions and know that it was wrong (this excludes the heartless / conscienceless),

have two choices - get right with God, or vehemently defend their “choice” for the rest of their earthly days.

I have seen good Christian girls become radical feminists to defend their “choice”, because they “had” to make the “choice” because some family member would have been “disappointed” in them.

I couldn’t agree more.

I have known several women who have had abortions, and NOBODY can speak to the hearts of young pregnant women who are considering abortion as effectively as those who have experienced this anguish.

If one is to buy into your argument, one must presume that blacks are dumber than whites. THAT is the real racist part of this issue. Who bought slaves? WHITES. Who lynched blacks, WHITES. Who are killing their own babies? Black women. So, your argument would have to be that black women are self-hating...

I see this issue differently from King. IMO, there are multiple reasons for racism such as ignorance, genetic reasons, competition. Same for abortion such as definition of life, ignorance, certain social concerns. There are people who are racist but anti-abortion, people who are pro abortion but not racist, people who are racist and pro abortion. I am acquainted with some of these types and some have changed their views.

What I presented you with were FACTS, I understand that people like you often respond best to knee-jerk emotion, but these were facts. NOWHERE did I make any claim as to anyone's intelligence.

Who are killing their own babies? Black women. So, your argument would have to be that black women are self-hating...

Could it be that abortion centers strategically placed in minority areas?

It is odd to see you finally admit that these are BABIES that are being KILLED -- when did you come to this realization?

Look, abortion is bad...racism is bad...but this is the STUPIDEST argument I’ve ever, ever read. It’s over the top things like this that sets your cause back.

Ah...so those noble, noble abortionists would make a liviing turning children into medcal waste, but they'd never let a racist thought enter their heads, right?

Dr. King must be applauding from his grave.

Unfortunately, I don't think so. MLK was very much a non-fundamentalist "social gospel" minister of the Left. He just didn't live to see abortion and "gay rights" become liberal causes (Roe v. Wade was in '73; the Stonewall riots were in the summer of '69). King's theological writings are available online and show that he rejected the supernatural and dogmatic elements of chr*stianity and used it only as a cloak to preach "liberation theology."

This does not in any way cloud the righteous achievements of the civil rights era, of course, but conservative Black preachers who invoke MLK in order to contrast him with today's leftist Black preachers are doing a disservice to their flocks. I've read some of their stuff and they seem to think--or pretend to think--that MLK was a Fundamentalist Baptist who gave an "altar call" at every sermon. I doubt if he ever gave an "altar call" in his career.

Of course, most conservative white Protestants think that George Washington, Benjamin Franklin, John Adams, Thomas Jefferson, and Abraham Lincoln were "born-again" Calvinists.
