Rebates OK: Democrats Admit Tax Cuts Work

President Bush proposed, and Congress quickly passed, an economic stimulus package in the form of tax “rebates” that could total $150 billion dollars back in the pockets of most Americans.

The president and Congress agreed that as much as $600 would be returned to individual Americans, or $1,200 per couple, and even more to households with children. The reason given for the rebates is that it will give the economy a needed shot in the arm and likely avoid or lessen a recession. Does any of this sound vaguely familiar? The president’s proposal should forever end the debate whether or not more money in the hands of taxpayers stimulates the economy.

Republicans have long maintained that when people pay less in taxes and have more of their own money to spend, they will do just that, as evidenced by the Reagan tax cuts reversing the disastrous Carter years. The additional spending stimulates the economy as demand for goods and services increase. More people are employed, and they pay taxes that fill the treasury’s coffers.

Does it not further reason that NOT taking the money in the FIRST place would also stimulate the economy?

Congressional Democrats see rebates as an election year opportunity to buy votes with your tax money. It will be interesting to see how long it will be before they revert back to their tired mantra of raising taxes to pay for their out-of-control earmark spending.

A whole lot of writing to get to crux in the last paragraph.

A RAT is a RAT is a RAT.

And RATs raise taxes. It’s part of their mental disease.

Witness Nobama’s 800+ BILLION for “global poverty” or Senator Clinton’s $5000 “new baby bond.”

Who can post that “We’re going to take things away...” graphic?

Indeed it does and Bush tried to get the federal income tax rate lowered even more but the Democrats like to first have your money and then give it back to you as they see fit. I didn't get one penny back in these rebates but my ungrateful liberal friends with 3 kids got an additional $2100.00 back for a total refund of $5000.00. These ingrates went skiing at the Grand Tetons. After showing me his vacation slideshow on his laptop and my telling him he can thank GWB and his subsequent BDS foaming at the mouth, I booted out of my home and sent him on his way. Ungrateful SOB!

Of course. And it would avoid all the overhead costs of returning the money, not to mention avoiding "returning" money to people who never paid in the first place.

A huge amount of taxes are paid just to process taxes.

Paying taxes to pay taxes...

Well, at least we simpleton taxpayers get to deduct the cost of doing our taxes, right?

Of course, it cost me $500 and at least 10 hours to get my taxes taken care of... Given that my billable time is worth about $150 an hour (that’s what my customers used to pay for it), my taxes cost me roughly $2000, not including the taxes paid! Thanks Congress!

As I show my economics students when discussing the consumption curve, at higher levels of disposable income(i.e. after tax income) more is saved or invested. If taxes are raised on these higher income earners, their disposable income goes down and so does their amount of savings and investment. Less savings and investment means less economic growth.

During the 1950's when the top marginal income tax rates were 85%+, economic growth was almost flat. When JFK cut these rates in the 1960's the US economy took off.

Actually, these tax rebates make most Americans even MORE dependant on government. I think it helps Dems. It proves that the gummit CAN and WILL provide you with cash when needed. If most Americans were smart enough, and they aren’t, they’d do a little math and add up how much they spend in a year on taxes. Not just federal and state. Sales, housing, hotel, food, property etc. Look at those figures and $600 ain’t squat.

These handouts are just that - handouts. They are not “rebates”.

Look at who gets them - those who don’t pay taxes. And those that pay the most taxes DON’T get the “rebate”.

Therefore, it’s just another wealth transfer. This is why dhimmirats support it.

Paying taxes to pay taxes...

And funding an army of bureaucrats to find ways to squeeze more out of you.
