According to the Tax Foundation, tax freedom day is April 23 this year. That means it takes that long into the New Year for the average worker to earn enough money to pay his or her total tax bill for the year.
In other words, we are required to pay our taxes for 2007 by April 15th even before we earn enough to pay them. If necessary, we can request a benevolent extension beyond April 15th if our tax return is so complicated that we cannot gather all the documentation required in order to file on time.
Thatll be me and millions of other people because of the complexity of the current tax code, which necessitates hiring a professional tax person to calculate and fill out the forms for our taxes owed.

TurboTax.
Turbo Tax & and writing a check for 4500 bucks in my case.
:-(
Yeah, and 'bitter' is too soft a word to describe my feelings about it.
National Tax Insanity BTTT.
The FairTax doesn't end the insanity, merely renames it.

Folks, we CAN beat the entrenched mess in Malfunction Junction.
But it will take MASSIVE CITIZEN PRESSURE to fill this swamp.
The FairTax aint perfect no tax IS but it COULD serve as a vital waypoint back to a tax system the Founders MIGHT recognize were they to visit today.
Join the fight!
Every concerned citizen should go to as many Congressional Town Hall Meetings as possible if only because they are great theater. If you can go and PUBLICLY ask your congresscritter something like the following, so much the better:
"Except for several lapses in our national character and a brief period surrounding the War Between the States, for America's first 126 years statistically, perhaps the most prosperous and free period in our history -- we funded the legitimate and Constitutional functions of government with INDIRECT taxes on consumption. For our first 126 years we held to the tax system the Founders intended here.
Explain to these good folks why you (do/do not -- as the case warrants) support the Fair Tax (HR 25/S25) which seeks to REPLACE the UNFAIR and INCOMPREHENSIBLE income tax with a FLAT, FAIR national retail sales tax which would eliminate the IRS, one of the most dangerous agencies in government and, not incidentally, require that 12 million illegals pay for some of the welfare and other services theyre currently sucking from the rest of us?"
Remain at the mike and DON'T LET HIM GET AWAY WITH THE OLD POLITICAL TRICK OF ANSWERING SOME OTHER QUESTION.
A few thousand of us doing this on a regular basis will send 'em the message.
Amen to that. I’m just sick and tired of paying all this tax for the little return I see.

Uh.. not exactly. iin order to file your extension you still need to know what you owe or your refund. In effect, to get at that point you have to have all your tax paperwork done anyway. And the only reason for not filing is you ran out of stamps. /s
Then again, you can always enter utter BS on the extension form and HOPE it works out when you do file - but that would be 'illegal' :-)
Which reminds me, I have to finish entering some data on my *&^&%ing Taxcut program. I HATE that program and always mean to buy TurboTax, but I always forget (grumble, mumble, expletives deleted).
Wrong, as usual.
Try doing that 4 times a year paying "estimated" taxes, as small business owners do, often paying tax on money yet to be earned. If we were to do away with withholding for a period of one fiscal year and everyone with earned income had to write the big check 4 times during that year, we would have a tax revolt on our hands that would spell an end to the IRS and the current tax system. Won't happen, though. Taxation is all about power and control and that's exactly what the politco's seek: Power and Control.
Wrong. The FairTax brings the process of taxation out of the shadows and into the bright sunlight for all to see. There would be none of this business of complicated forms and "alternative minimum taxes", not to mention the abundance of embedded and hidden taxes, and those folks who avoid taxes, like drug dealers, illegal gamblers, and those who work for cash. On that basis alone the FairTax is worth a serious look. Educate yourself.
April 15th bump!
I always know "I just might learn something!" from him every time I listen.
Notice none of the scammers mention the MASSIVE entitlement program that couples with this national sales tax ecconomy killer.
(s)WE DEMAND a LIVING PREBATE/REBATE to cover all our life expenses entirely, and satelite TV, and algore internet, and cell phones, and a luxury car of our choice. Because NewIRS is not really the same as OldIRS (/s)
All of which bring in tax revenue with the purchases under the FairTax! TANSTAAFL under the FairTax!
Except for the poor. (merk)
Just like the 1991 luxury tax?
Just like the way the current large ticket items are bought outside the USA to legally avoid sales taxes?
It brings NOTHING to the table. It only creates a new shadow ecconomy.
You do not even consider the MASSIVE ENTITLEMENT program with the government sanctioned monthly “living prebate” check which will be the first political football in every election. You don’t consider the parade of lobbyists for sales tax exemptions and reductions.
You also do not include the fact that it does NOTHING to eliminate the income tax. HR 25 only “forsees” the removal and the scam sets us up fo r an income tax PLUS sales tax.
HR 25 is just NewIRS and has all the appeal of NewCoke.
The FairTaxScam is DOA.
