This has been bugging me for some time. I have my own opinions, but I'd like to hear others.
With respect to Israel, I believe AQ realizes that a major terrorist act would lead to the Israeli military opening up a major can of whoop-ass on a few neighboring countries.
As for Iran, there's certainly reason for them to be hit. There's just about as much anti-Iranian rants as there are anti "Zionist" ones on the jihadi forums. My best guess is that the Iranians are holding some high-level AQ members hostage.
I think a worldwide terrorist attack is coming soon. I think that there are some Salafist elements that do support Hezbollah that is able to keep AQ in check.
Al Qaeda and Iran?

Al Qaeda’s First goal- destroy the great Satan (US) and the small Satan (Israel)- then purge the apostate Shia. This is where the late leader of Al Qaeda in Iraq went astray from the supreme leader’s gudance.
And Iran would not take “hostages” but they might be welcoming “guests” who would be under tight controls by the IRGC.
AQ has probably tried in Israel, but has not found a way in. Iran for all intents and purposes is AQ.

First, they can’t attack Isreal because they AQ is running low on bodies. They are getting a full does of WOOP-ASK from the USMC and others.
Second Iran is not holding any ‘high-level AQ members hostage”, they are supporting them and no doubt allowing them to use Iran as a safe haven in which to live and plan future attacks from.
AQ first wants the west to retreat and end support for Israel. If AQ can convince the west that it's their support for Isreal that is “causing” attacks, then support for Israeli “occupier” will dwindle. It's already working in much of Europe.
As for Iran, I think McCain was right the first time. The 9/11 Commission was the first to draw the connections between AQ and Iran.
Which is what we should be doing world wide. Any Islamist, Arab that is leadership providing money, support should be killed. I'd say zots out, world wide about a 5,000 name list. If we can't get to them, kill their families, brothers, who ever we can get. Make it personal.
Oh, and having the our military chewing up the suckers is nice too.
Before anyone dismisses this, read Charley Wilson's War. Get the book---don't see the movie, although it's ok. Wilson and a couple of CIA agents, largely without the specific approval (but with knowledge) of the Reagan administration, funneled $400 million in arms to the Afghans in the 1980s. They got the SAUDIS to match every dollar; got the ISRAELIS to provide weapons---which the muj took as long as there were no stars of David on them---they got the CHINESE to supply weapons, and they got a secret deal with Pakistan that Reagan would look the other way as the Paks got their own atomic bomb if Zia would continue to funnel support through the Pak border.
This was at a time that the NY Times and Dan Rather said the mujahadeen were finished and the war was over!!d
Here's the point: there were numerous secret deals with the Israelis, Saudis, and Paks, all on different levels, all with certain "understandings." I think some of these are in place, to the effect of, "non-nuclear attacks, we'll deal with. Your country might get invaded, but that's the risk you take. You can be our ally or our enemy, and we'll fight within the rules. But a nuke or WMD attack? We're going to treat all the ME as the enemy."
In Israel’s case, they’d like to whack Little Satan, but they’re afraid of the consequences.
In Iran’s case...professional courtesy.
2. Build 2 Oil refinery's off the coast of Connecut or PR or St Thomas
3. Impose a 90 percent income tax on any company importing oil from any me country
4.Elect McCain with a Conservative Congress.
5. Nuke Tehran till it glows in the dark. Send out a warning to Syria you are next.
6. Build the new Bomber and use Syria as a Bombing Range Test Area till they say uncle. Or Lend Lease 3 B2s to Israel for 3 months ( 2 to learn how to fly it and the third to do a flyby over Mr As palace in Tehran. Then the next day drop warning leaflets that say bluntly “ Get out of Iraq or else the next mission will not be a training mission.
7. Tell China to get the hell out of Tibet or they are next!
Concentrate on the USA....
Iran + Hez + hamas plus all the other roaches are already concentrating on Israel...AQ no need to waste suicide bombers on Israel, the others are doing a nice job on Israel without AQ...
As for Iran, they equal AQ=IRAN
Its Iran that caused 911 (proxy AQ) as Iran is beating on Israel by proxy of Hez...
