McCain camp hammers Obama on small town comments
The McCain campaign, finding a gift in its lap, tees off on the eye-opening comments by Barack Obama from a fundraiser last week in San Francisco (of all places).
Asked to respond, McCain adviser Steve Schmidt called it a "remarkable statement and extremely revealing."
"It shows an elitism and condescension towards hardworking Americans that is nothing short of breathtaking," Schmidt said. "It is hard to imagine someone running for president who is more out of touch with average Americans."
Said Obama, as recorded by a HuffPost writer in attendance:
"You go into these small towns in Pennsylvania and, like a lot of small towns in the Midwest, the jobs have been gone now for 25 years and nothing's replaced them," Obama said. "And they fell through the Clinton administration, and the Bush administration, and each successive administration has said that somehow these communities are gonna regenerate and they have not. And it's not surprising then they get bitter, they cling to guns or religion or antipathy to people who aren't like them or anti-immigrant sentiment or anti-trade sentiment as a way to explain their frustrations."
The Republicans are itching to play the elitism card against Obama, and these comments just made that task a whole lot easier.
UPDATE: Obama's camp, not confirming or even mentioning their candidate's comments, issues a statement from spokesman Tommy Vietor:

“Did Obama say that he hated all small town folk, or just the white ones.”
well...considering that when Obama described his grandma as a typical white person as someone who is afraid of people who aren’t like them, I’m going to guess this is pertinent part of Obama’s latest racist remark...
“or antipathy to people who aren’t like them”
So - I’m guessing his latest statements have nothing to do with tyical black folks - this is a slam at typical whites.
I hope Snob-bama is not our first affirmative action president. Granted to the least qualified because of the color he was born.
Some get “in touch” with their “inner child”
Maybe Obama’s getting in touch with his inner white liberal snob
Pbama needs a reality check. What an idiot.
The first of many I would imagine.
Obama is a lightweight.
He deserves it too for being an @$$#01e.
Juan McPain is a lightweight hitting Osamabama with a wet noodle. JM is a nonsense RINO who has been destroying conservatives for over 20 years.
For about 2 weeks now, I have noticed more occaions of Obama stuttering to answer a question, or hesitating nearly 10 seconds and then with difficulty finding the words he needs to answer a question.
He was a glorious orator when he had his standard stump speech about HOPE, Yes We Can, and Change! But, give him an actual question that requires a serious answer, he seems to be so far removed form being an adequate candidate for the office of POTUS, it’s actually embarrassing. I have to say, that in the past few weeks his articulation is more like GWB than Clinton or Gore. I think it is quite humorous.
At least Pres. Bush is honest and thoughtful in his answers, even though he is not a good public speaker.
I've noticed the same thing. A couple of days back someone posted a quote of his and it sounded absolutely pathetic - more along the lines of what you would get when you asked a question of the typical teenager.
I searched, but couldn't find it again...
Apparently, "Mr. Articulate" is mostly "Mr. Media Creation."
Some of the Democrat congressional candidates from rural and smaller town districts should be worried (Rev. Wright tapes, this gaffe, Michelle’s publicly-stated views on the US).
The only thing missing from BHO’s campaign is a running mate who previously had electroshock treatment.
>Apparently, “Mr. Articulate” is mostly “Mr. Media Creation.”<
Yes. We all witnessed his creation last summer.
Strange that although it deals with Pennsylvania, local Philly TV news shows aren’t spending much time at all on this story - or maybe not..........
Geez, get this guy off script and he just can’t help himself, can he?
