Red Sox fan adds high-jinx to Yankees rivalry
NY Post ^ | 04/11/08 | JOHN DOYLE and CHUCK BENNETT

The new Yankee Stadium may be cursed!

A devilish Boston fan working on a concrete crew at the $1.3 billion stadium covertly buried a Red Sox T-shirt under what will become the visiting team's locker room to jinx the Yanks, two construction workers told The New York Post yesterday.

I am a Yankees fan but sadly I believe the “Sawx” have a lock on the championship this year.

I read the hired Bill “Belicheat” as a consultant.

How does he know that BURYING a RedSox item UNDER Yankee stadium wont cause a curse on the Sox?

Well, I'm pretty sure Bill Buckner "buried" a Cubbies batting glove under his first baseman's glove during a World Series, and even though the Sox lost the game, and the Series, they eventually were able to shake the curse.

However, the Cubs, well, maybe you do have a point about it backfiring...

What does it matter? The Yankees drew over FOUR MILLION fans each of the past 2 years. Their seasons tickets are sold out for the next 20 years and they are, by far the most successful sports franchise in history.

People hate the Yankees for one reason, because they win more then any other team. It’s jealousy pure and simple.

When you as a Yankee fan demand that the team give back a few WS championships during the time Clemens, Knobloch and Pettite played for them you can talk about cheating.

. . . while the Marlins and Rays owners pocket $30 plus million a year in coin they did nothing to earn.

Actually, they did a lot to "earn" that money. That's what a sports league that covers the entire country is all about.

If nothing else, they provide additional exposure to the other teams in the league in cities that didn't have major league franchises before them.

However, it's also worth noting that the Florida Marlins have also won two championships in the last dozen years -- a pretty remarkable feat for a "small-market" team.

They brought in a bunch of free agents back in 1997 and won it then developed a bunch of pitching and won it back in 2003 with some key additions. The 1997 team was owned by Wayne Huzienga who was a rich cat. He dumped the team.

Nowadays they keep ditching their star players for minimum wage guys and are keeping their payroll less than the amount of money they get from MLB. The current owner pockets the cash and doesn't put it into his club which is what the revenue sharing was supposed to be for.

The Yankees and Sox pull fans into the visiting ball parks when they travel. Tampa sells out those 18 games a year. On most nights they get small crowds. The fans buy tickets at inflated prices and then also spend on concessions and parking. If Sox, Yankee, Mets, Cubs and Dodger fans don't watch the national games on ESPN and Fox then there is less TV contract money to go towards the small market teams.

The system doesn't work since there is no mandate that the welfare that the teams get needs to go into payroll.

There is a luxury tax for teams with payrolls above a certain threshold

Thats what I meant. I am not a baseball fan. I find it as exciting as soccer.

But my question stand unanswered. If I want to go to a Yankees or Red Sox game, on average, how much more is it going to cost me than attending a Cubs game, or Dodger, or Giants?

I could care less if the Yankees go 162-0, which they won't do because they suck.

But, regarding them winning more than anyone else, I assume you mean World Series titles, yes?

Obscure trivia for you.

Who has lost the most World Series?

Answer: NY Yankees

Show me proof that a single law was broken and that any substance taken by any of these people was illegal (HGH is NOT a performance enhancing substance). Absent that then just soak in the total slime that is the New England sports teams.

19-0? Registered trademark?

BWAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAH!!!!!

Yeah, like the “SAWX” have only lost maybe TWO since 1918. Oh wait, you have to be IN the WS in order to LOSE it, don’t you?

Then why is trafficking in roids or any other controlled substance a criminal offense?

You New York fans want it both ways. Just like how A-Rod swings it.

And the Yankees won the overwhelming majority of those WS without having to play more than one post season series. If they had to play an ALCS before an WS then I would hazard a guess that they have a few less to their credit.

Both clubs are in the playoffs because the fans demand good product and are willing to pay for it.

Actually, that's the problem. Baseball's ruling body allows teams to spend their way into dramatically increasing their odds of success. One cannot fault Steinbrenner and his Boston counterpart for following the rules and doing their best to ensure success, of course. It is MLB that is to blame for ensuring that the AL east, and the AL itself, are perenially likely to be a two-team endeavor.

The NFL is by far a better product, thanks to salary caps and revenue-sharing programs. In any given season, at least 26 of the 32 teams have a legitimate shot at the title. Even the current establish powers like the Colts and Patriots have to be VERY wary, and mind every cap dollar allocated. Take out Brady and Peyton, and you cannot really separate the talent levels of the top 13 teams in the NFL.

Heck, this even reverberates down to the EA Sports video games. For Madden, you must face some real opposition as you fight towards the Super Bowl. In the MLB game, each team is assigned certain tasks to measure success. If you take the Orioles, for example, your success as a manager is not measured by winning the World Series, or even the AL East division, but rather by winning a certain percentage of games and reaching a few statistical milestones. The difference is blazingly apparent, even to the Nintendo generation.

First of all, where is your proof any Yankee was taking Steroids? Secondly, how do you manage the leap from a baseless accusation of a player(s) taking steroids and the trafficking of same?

You guess the Yankees are “cheating” but the world KNOWS the Pats cheat and the “Saux” have been nailed on more then one occasion putting a monitor in their own bullpen with cameras showing the opposing pitchers pitch selection in different circumstances. They admitted it and were forced to remove the TV's from the pen. It's the same as the Belicheat anser when he got caught. neither of them thought it was inappropriate.

Are you saying Arod is gay? LOL, geez, wouldn't that be something.

The Schnozz admitted to cheating by taking HGH, Knobloch has come clean, Sheffield took roids but claimed he didn't know and Roger not only cheated but perjured himself on Capital Hill and has been referred to the JD for investigation and the Greasebag known as Giambi admitted doing roids.

YANKEES CHEAT!!!!!!!!!

Get your facts straight, dude. Steroids and HGH were not specifically banned until 2003. The fact that baseball banned ALL of what they called “performance enhancing drugs” is meaningless without specifically naming them. Using your logic, a player that takes Aspirin to relieve a sore shoulder so he can play is breaking the rules. It can easily be claimed the aspirin enhances his performance by virtue of the fact he can play without pain by taking it. Same could be said of Cortisone, which is used regularly by players to relieve pain.

Trying to equate what a few players in baseball have done with the disgrace of the Pats and Bill Belicheat is a real hoot. The NE fans will NEVER live down this disgrace and will FOREVER have ALL their Super Bowel victories called into question.
