Is it reasonable to think that the very measured USN response to the Iranian speedboat dry runs, is a bit of deliberate disinformation? Let them think the rules/capabilities of US assets are one thing, when in truth, they are very different. Sucker punch???
I would love to have you as a customer.
It would be nice if they could squeeze on a 3" gun for a little bit of stand off power.
We had a “casus belli” the moment our embassy on US soil was invaded in Tehran and hostages taken back in the dark days of the Carter era.
We don’t need another provocation.
Given how the Bush-Clinton-Bush team has gutted the navy, it's not unusual.
I was thinking 3 inch/50 but I guess the chain guns make an impression when they walk the rounds up to the “target.” also I would suppose 3 inch has a lot more recoil.
They should have sunk it! I would have. ;o)
Along with a couple of torpedoes. That would compliment the cruise missle nicely, don't you think? LOL
What they are doing sam is testing. Next time they will come a little closer. Right now they are just playing for time and testing. Waiting to see who wins the election.
"Nuke 'um till they glow, then shoot 'um in the dark."
Last year for fathers day the girls got me Morison’s history of US Navy in WWII. What a gift. I’m on Vol xii, I think, invasion of Normandy.
Big picture:: we and the brits really perfected naval guns in support of ground troops. Airforce not so good, at least in Europe, kind of arrogant and uncooperative. The more I read the more I see two issues. Bravery on almost all sides, but we killed them with logistics, material and organization.
USN hasn’t used a 3” for years.
Goes:
.50 Cal (pintle and stabilized now being introduced)
25mm (stabilized now being introduced)
30mm
57mm (upcoming on LCS and DDG-1000)
76mm
5’
155mm (upcoming on DDG-1000)
Also the 20mm Phalanx and some 40mm Grenade launchers.
Nothing above 30mm is needed for small boats. They have plenty of range. Key is a stabilized mount.
The Oto-Melara 76mm on the Perrys is of course 3”, but it’s not the old USN 3” gun.
Still more than you’d really need against the small boat threat.
When the controlling party in our own country is that stupid I can see the rest of the opinionated world being that stupid as well.
The Iranians are simply victims of the evil dominant power that is called the US.
‘Git’er done!”
