Official warns against hiring illegal immigrants in Dallas
07:48 AM CDT on Thursday, April 10, 2008
Assistant Homeland Security chief Julie Myers had some tough talk for Dallas business owners Wednesday: The crackdown on employers who hire illegal immigrants will continue. And just in case they don't believe her, she detailed recent prosecutions of managers. Ms. Myers, in town for a luncheon hosted by the Greater Dallas Chamber of Commerce, also talked about an initiative aimed at ensuring deportation of criminal illegal immigrants in local jails. Ms. Myers oversees Homeland Security's Immigration and Customs Enforcement department, the second-largest law enforcement agency in the nation and one with a portfolio that includes a crackdown on illegal immigrants and those who employ them.
"Ignoring the laws will not make them go away," Ms. Myers told an audience of businessmen and businesswomen.
Some employers are participating in "domestic outsourcing" by hiring illegal immigrants, Ms. Myers said. The result, she said, is that employers exploit workers with lower wages and lax adherence to safety and environmental laws.

"Ignoring the laws will not make them go away," Ms. Myers told an audience of businessmen and businesswomen.Riiiiiiiiiiight Julie. And......
Be careful, some of those illegals might not like you breaking up their party.
LOL. Shall we all don big trash bags like the audience does at Gallager shows?
The crackdown on employers who hire illegal immigrants will continue.
I don't know why everybody is complaining. She seems to get it.
Just read that Mexico is crying about the influx of repatriated Mexicans, lolol!
I'm surprised that is tolerated (meaning, of course, the gathering of the illegals in plain sight). The DFW metroplex tends to keep this stuff under wraps by providing buildings in which the day labor crowd can wait for contractors to show up. There was a thread some months ago about such a place in Richardson.
I think there's another one over in the Carrollton - Farmer's Branch area, in a former Wal-Mart building. Just my unconfirmed suspicion, though.
As for Ms. Myers' tough talk, I'd prefer more action and no advance warning... just lower the boom on employers who are ignoring the rules.
“The last 7 years”??
Where have you been for the two generations BEFORE President Bush took office? He’s been awful on this issue, but you sure can’t place ALL the blame at his doorstep. This would never have happened if Congress hadn’t passed that stupid amnesty bill in the 80s to ‘solve’ the illegal problem—it just made things a million times worse! :-(
I know where you are talking about—there used to be a sign at that building that said something like “Day Laborers’ Center”—might as well have said “Illegal Immigrant Welcoming and Solicitation Center”—funny, no sign identifying the place now, although there’s always men milling about there with nothing to do most days until the construction site managers show up with their empty pick up truck beds and fill them up.
.
LOL!
I recall that one!
That is because that is a designated "day labor" facility. Since they put the damn thing there the surrounding part of Plano east of 75 has turned into a slightly better version of Mexico City. One block east of the train station in the strip center that used to have a wide variety of businesses there are now two big mexican groceries stores, handfuls of other mexican businesses (don't know what they are, don't read Spanish) and crime is off the charts. The mexicans get the lease spaces cheap because NOBODY else will rent there. It got so bad the Plano Police put in a satellite station in the strip center itself. Saves them gas from going back and forth to pick up the thieves.
I’m dragging them out, they are just ‘wasting away’.

Sorry for the rant, but this has been too ridiculous for too long. Well, what a solution, deport the criminal illegals so they can slip across the border soon after and commit even more crimes. No wonder the drug cartels just love us to pieces.
I'm surprised that is tolerated (meaning, of course, the gathering of the illegals in plain sight).
Oh, no, it happens every morning. Let's see, if you're in Riverside, CA, there's a Home Depot parking lot right off a major freeway where the illegals approach you with their only English speaker asking for day work - in cash. And if you travel in Lewisville or Denton, Texas there are major freeway intersections where strip mall parking lots are loaded every morning with illegals. The police, the INS, do nothing. The illegals are out in broad daylight every day and the government will do nothing.
Aside from the fact that they don't pay billions of dollars in taxes (there are wire services set up to send money home to Mexico, where American tax-free dollars are the largest source of national income), they are also swamping our social services. Their anchor babies are born free of charge in the same hospitals where Americans need money/insurance or they'll be pursued by collection agencies. The WIC offices list Spanish speaking as a real plus on the employment forms because the majority of the people applying only speak Spanish.
Sorry for the rant, but this has gone on for at least 20 years and it's getting worse all the time. Viva la Requista!
Just damn, I’m no good at spelling Spanish. I don’t want to. That should have been “Viva la Reconquista!”
Hell, I know it's happening everywhere. My point was that the Dallas area has taken action to keep the congregating of illegals seeking day labor jobs out of public view as much as possible.
Some of the "day labor centers" have been around for a decade or more, but the number of Mexicans is evidently overwhelming the efforts to keep eveything neatly buttoned-down.
Everyone knows this has been going on for decades. This is a Bush administration spokeswoman, therefore I want to know what HER boss has been doing the last 7 years on stopping immigration. We elected a Republican president to two terms and all we get is Democrat immigration policies. I would hope a Republican would place a lot more emphasis on border security (I surely don’t expect a Democrat to do so). And yes, the Reagan Amnesty Bill stunk too.
I agree....I don’t give a Tinker’s Damn about how she got her job. If she scares the $hit out of potential US employers to keep them from hiring these illegal criminals, I say “you go girl.”
In the vernacular of McQueeg, "My Friend" , "You have just described EVERY community in these United States."
To get specific, the plague from these illegals is ubiquitous.
Awesome, potlatch!
This is great news, too!
That’s GREAT, Phil!
