I want to take these demonstrators by the ears, shake them and scream, “Hello!...moron! Don’t you realize that the oppression in Tibet is being promulgated by Chinese COMMUNISTS?? COMMUNISTS! Your People! Remember Mao, the Long March and 60 million middle class farmers and property owners butchered and starved? By the COMMUNISTS? Your beloved brethren! Why are you complaining now? And where the hell have you been for the last half a century??”

They should’ve awarded the Games to Toronto. Unfortunately, our guys never had a knack for bribing IOC members so we lost for the third time.

I am unbelieving that NOBODY thought to buy a 10-pack of fire extinguishers with all their Protest Friends (TM).

There have been other variations on that theme. The silliest was in 1976 when a remote link was established to ignite the flame in Canada at the moment it was lit in Greece.

The reason they care about Tibet is because Buddhism is the new age religion of choice.

I recently went to a house party (invited by a friend of the hosts) where their refrigerator was covered with every flavor of commie propaganda imaginable. But right in the middle of it, between Mao and Ho Chi Minh, was a “Free Tibet” sticker. I couldn’t stop laughing at them.

My understanding was always that Visa holders in this country were not allowed to take part in political demonstrations. Seems many of the pro-China protesters were students...presumably on student visas. I know everyone will get a chuckle out of me expecting immigration and visa laws to be enforced, but shouldn’t these students be deported?

Sorry. I, at least, am on the side of anyone giving the Chinese government a hard time, especially about Tibet and their 1936 Olympics redux; anything to convince Uncle Sam to pull out government support for any part of it. Private participation and support is fine. Let George do it.

I am sure if the protests were going on in the USA...maybe. But since they were going on in San Francisco...no dice...not an American city.

Wait, I'm confused by this photo. When I was in SF a few years back, the Chinese there had tables set up on the street to denounce the treatment of Chinese under Chinese Communism. And the Berkeley American born white Communists were advocating FOR Communism.
I think this is a staged photo op to make it appear that white liberals oppose Communism.
The main gripe I HAVE heard from white libs about China is that they aren't taking a stand on Darfur. Seriously.

The Tokyo Olympics became a symbol of pride for the Japanese. Coming 20 years after being defeated in WWII, it served as a sign that they had "come back" from defeat and were being accepted around the world.
I don't agree with using the Olympics now as a means of triggering "reforms" in a country (like China), it should come AFTER they have reformed. Otherwise the next Summer Olympics should be held in Saudi Arabia.
