Olympic Torch Emits 5,500 Tons of CO2
ABCNews ^ | April 9, 2008 | DAVE DEMERJIAN

Angry protesters, riot police, mass demonstrations, arrests for disorderly conduct -- it hasn't exactly been smooth sailing for the Olympic-torch relay.

If people are looking for another reason to be pissed at China, how about this: By the time this pyro parade is over, it will have produced about 11 million pounds of carbon emissions.

So when the torch isn't being marched through city streets and/or extinguished by protesters, how is it getting around? You guessed it, by plane -- an Air China A330 custom painted with the Olympic logo and color scheme.

The A330 burns 5.4 gallons of fuel per mile. That translates into 462,400 gallons for the entire trip.

Thank goodness for the torch. The earth is cooling so fast we might freeze to death, if something isn’t done to slow the freezing down. Mankind needs to act now. Burn carbon fuels. While our carbon emissions might seem inconsequential, we don’t know. Maybe we can reach a tipping point that will hold off another ice age.

Prime Minister Gordon Brown, seen here outside 10 Downing Street as the Olympic Torch arrives on April 6, 2008, will not attend the opening ceremony of the Beijing Olympics, Downing Street said Wednesday, adding that he had never intended to do so. (AFP/File/Jeff Moore)

I think it would be fun to make a ‘study’ from a group calling ourselves the “Good Science for a Nice Environment Center” about how much CO2 is released from Coca Cola and Pepsi and other soda pop drinks each year.

Thats a heck of a lot of carbonation they put into those drinks.

Lets say there each can released 6.72 liters of CO2 at sea level and barameteric pressure of 32 mBar (gotta use a nice scientific-sounding data)

Multiplied by billions of bottles and cans sold each year...

I bet we could stir up a real panic

not that I am suggesting any one actually DO this...or that FR could be funded forever by the mere threat of such a ‘study’ hinted at ... (Hey, Jesse Jackson makes a living extorting companies)

This global warming scam is worse than Amway at its peak. Worse than the New Kids on The Block craze...please God...make it go away.

Isn’t that about the same amount of CO2 released every month by Algore on his global warming scam?

Even better study...

If a human produces about 1 kg of CO2 a day, how much is China or India churing out each day? Just from breathing?

For some real science with math and everything see

I was thinking an actual scientific-sounding study by a pretend organization against an ‘evil corporation’ - I bet the press would eat it up without once checking a source.

Have a ‘press conference’ in lab coats to announce the ‘findings’

What fun when it was exposed that they all fell for it- I bet even HiLARy would use it in her campaign speaches if we tossed in some ‘facts’ about the number of death due to the ‘carbonated cola menace’

Sorry, hate to disappoint you but CO2 has NO effect on the temp of this earth. We could burn fossil fuel until we are blue in the face and it would not matter one bit. CO2 is but a trace gas in the atmosphere and does not really matter that much. Talk to old Mr. Sun up there. His solar cycles , much like female hormonal swings, affect us more. Lots more.

Never mind the fact that it was also the Nazi’s and Hitler that created the idea of holding and carrying torches for the 1936 Olympics.
