Canadian blogosphere under attack
Hot Air ^ | 4/9/08 | Ed Morrissey

After publisher Ezra Levant finally prevailed against a bogus complaint about “hate speech” for expressing his views about radical Islam at Canada’s Human Rights Commission, he expected the battle to continue in civil courts. Sure enough, he got sued by Richard Warman, a CHRC investigator — who included a number of Canada’s conservative bloggers.

Ezra: Today I was sued by Richard Warman, Canada’s most prolific – and profitable – user of section 13 of the Canadian Human Rights Act. As readers of this site know, Warman isn’t just a happy customer of section 13 and its 100% conviction rate, he’s a former CHRC employee, an investigator of section 13 thought crimes himself. In fact, he was often both a customer and an investigator at the same time.

Kathy Shaidle: Richard Warman used to work for the notorious Human Rights Commission, which runs the “kangaroo courts” who’ve charged Mark Steyn with “flagrant Islamophobia.” Richard Warman has brought almost half these cases single-handledly, getting websites he doesn’t like shut down, and making tens of thousands of tax free dollars in “compensation” out of web site owners who can’t afford to fight back or don’t even realize they can. These bloggers and free-speech advocates can use your help.

First, be sure to read their entire posts on the controversy. Next, link back to them, showing them support for their efforts to keep political and social criticism from falling victim to government-imposed speech codes. If you can, hit their tip jars to provide some financial support — because brother, they’re going to need it for the attorneys they will have to hire. The costs involved in fighting these kinds of lawsuits will drive people into silence, intimidated by financial ruin. If bloggers won’t stand up against these kinds of tactics, then who will?

I guess you never had the chance to serve with Canadian soldiers

Actually I did. Frequently. I was stationed at Fort Lewis, Washington from 1980-84. We were always holding joint exercises with them. Good troops. But like the British soldiers I have served with: 1st SAS, 1st Para and 3rd Royal Anglian PLUS the Ghurkas -- the Canadians and the British soldiers do NOT reflect the attitude of the general population and as far as the British go, their army seems to be universally scorned by the general public. I got the impression that it was much the same with the Canadians.

One thing I can say about both groups: Them boys can DRINK! Many's the night we'd close the Ft Lewis Officer's Club having had a liquid dinner composed mostly of various beers, scotches, bourbons and some vodka thrown in for good measure. In fact that was where I got my first introduction to the vodka drink called a Kamakazi. The USAF Officer's Club at McChord AFB called this drink a SPIN, CRASH & BURN. The Canadians were always kind enough to bring along some MOLSON or LABATTS beer that was 12% instead of the military mandated 3.2% We always had a good time and I respect the military greatly. But the majority of Canadians? I put most of them (those that aren't freepers) in the same light that I hold the residents of Berkley, California.

We think our media is bad here with bias in the USA. I could only imagine having everything controlled or managed like the CBC.

I would imagine in Canada that Conservative blogs and Newspapers are as abundant as cowboys at a Rap music convention?

Yes, we are fighting the socialism that was instituted in the 70’s.

The CBC is the absolute worst.
You have NPR, and PBS, but they don’t get nearly the funding the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation receives from the taxpayers of Canada.
The CBC, CTV/Global, and Rogers all get government funding (taxpayers money).
Arg.

See you tomorrow.
:-)

Wow, they’re going after FR’s sister site, Free Dominion. I remember back in the day when we Freepers used to post there when FR was having technical problems.
