A reader from Free Republic has dug up an old article last year (March 07) From TNR about Obama. It was written by Ryan Lizza, Senior editor at The New Republic. It's a biographical piece, but in the article, it explicitly states that Jeremiah Wright is a former Muslim.

Born and raised in Philadelphia, Wright followed in the footsteps of his father and grandfather and enrolled at by attending Virginia Union University, with the intention of doing graduate work at the historically black seminary. But disenchanted by what he felt was an inadequate Christian response to the civil rights movement, he abruptly ended his pastoral pursuits and joined the U.S. Navy.
An encounter with a pastor as he loitered on some church steps reminded Wright of his calling. He eventually returned to Howard University to finish bachelor's and master's degrees in English with a focus on African spirituals. At the University of Chicago Divinity School, he earned another master's in the history of religions with a focus on Islam. He planned to earn a doctoral degree his Ph.D. and teach at a seminary.

Ace of Spades has an item on a depraved and lunatic page on Obama’s official blog that sounds like some strange Afrocentric Farrakhan acolyte trying to explain why it is in the interest of American Jews to support Obama (hint: if they don’t, it will result in “grave consequences” for them). This is both crazy and evil, the kind of material that should only appear in the most distant fringes of extremism, yet it was on Obama’s official blog until the attention drawn to it led them to quickly scub the page:

Meanwhile, over at BarackObama.com, which appears to be the official campaign site and is paid for by “Obama for America, a “community blog” makes the following nuanced points:
Obamanism is the cure for Clintonitis that has devastated America and I hope Jews all over US rally around Obama and support him to win both the nomination and the Presidency because after he wins, he would help the Jews and Israel as well as settle the Middle East problems.

I don’t know where this Afrocentric lunacy comes from or why the writer thinks the Rockefellers are part of “world Jewry” but it sure does sound reminiscent of Nazi-type tirades rolling up all of international finance and political conspiracies into “world Jewry”.... the Obama campaign has nuked that page but it has been preserved on the WorldWideWeb (must be another Jewish conspiracy, that WWW).
We should then collect enough money to Swift Boat him.. He will beat Hillary, so we should get busy now. We need documents and documentation to validate any claims we make against him.. What say you all?

Sorry to be late answering. I think you may be referring to Liberation Theology. It is a perversion of the Gospel in my opinion. It is basically Socialism and poses Jesus Christ as liberator of the poor and opressed by political and social action. It arose in the Catholic Church and the Jusuits, but has pretty much fallen into disfavor among Catholics. It’s very prevalent in South America. It is a handy weapon for the victim mentality, so you can see that it preaches well in a lot of black churches.
I never said that I didn’t “trust” THE NEW REPUBLIC, I simply wanted to know the credibility of the source before I pass on any information. I’m not that familiar with TNR. See Post #22.
He has told us that he feels a particular closeness to some of the Biblical prophets (so do Muslims, they have the same prophets), and he told us that he believes that Jesus is the son of God, but that he still has some doubts about the supernatural Christian beliefs. Obama says that he was drawn to the admonitions of Christ to love thy neighbor. He has also told us that Wright has read Tillich and Niebuhr. Fine, that doesn't mean much. I've read them, too (although, I'm sure not as depth).
Tillich presents Christ as the ultimate concern, a perfect model sent to people to as an example of how to live our lives. This is something that an apostate Muslim could accept, if he denied any super natural attributes to Christ, which Obama has admitted that he had doubts about.
Niebuhr was a pure communist in his early days and I suspect that his early writings are what the Rev JWright concentrated on. Later, when Niebuhr came to America, after witnessing the suffering of communism, he turned against communism. I really don't remember much about what Niebuhr did preach.
That brings us to the statement that the Rev JWright made that Trinity was a good place for apostate Muslims and former gang bangers in this article, Obama's search for faith". You may wonder why he would say that. The answer is because Liberation theology rejects all hierarchical authority and traditional interpretation of Christianity. It redefines sin and accepts violence on the part of oppressed (the gang bangers, included) as welcomed rebellion against white hegemony.
The Marxists describe Liberation Theology as a praxis, as opposed to a method, of uniting people with religious beliefs behind their cause of liberating the world from the oppression of the white capitalists. A praxis is simply a method of action, rather than a planned technique. To their mind, this sounds less subversive.
Obama's belief in Marxism dates back to his Columbia days. After Columbia, Obama answered a help-wanted ad for a position as a community organizer for the Developing Communities Project (DCP) of the Calumet Community Religious Conference (CCRC) in Chicago. Obama was 24 years old, unmarried, and according to his memoir, searching for a genuine African-American community.
Both the CCRC and the DCP were built on the Alinsky model of community agitation, wherein paid organizers learned how to "rub raw the sores of discontent," in Alinsky's words.
One of Obama's early mentors in the Alinsky method was Mike Kruglik, who had this to say to an interviewer of The New Republic, about Obama: "He was a natural, the undisputed master of agitation, who could engage a room full of recruiting targets in a rapid-fire Socratic dialogue, nudging them to admit that they were not living up to their own standards. As with the panhandler, he could be aggressive and confrontational. With probing, sometimes personal questions, he would pinpoint the source of pain in their lives, tearing down their egos just enough before dangling a carrot of hope that they could make things better."
The agitator's job, according to Alinsky, is first to bring folks to the "realization" that they are indeed miserable, that their misery is the fault of unresponsive governments or greedy corporations, then help them to bond together to demand what they deserve, and to make such an almighty stink that the dastardly governments and corporations will see imminent "self-interest" in granting whatever it is that will cause the harassment to cease.

2007 On April 8th, Obama shows his Muslim/Palestinian solidarity and sensitivity, by telling Muscatine, Illinois Democratic party activists that he supports relaxing restrictions on aid to the Palestinian people.
He said they have suffered the most as a result of stalled peace efforts with Israel. “Nobody is suffering more than the Palestinian people.”

A rose by any other name would smell as sweet and the rotten cabbage of Islam would stink as badly if you called it cole slaw. Calling Jeremiah Wright (or Barack Obama) a christian is like calling Michael Moore Mr. Universe.
