Installing Free Republic Update Tonight
Posted on 04/08/2008 10:15:49 PM PDT by John Robinson
Will be installing an update tonight that fixes a number of issues. The version that will be installed is currently available on the beta site.
Changes
- Fixed the time-warping "More" links.
- Fixed time zone issues, using JavaScript to ask your browser to format the time stamp. If you don't have JavaScript enabled, you'll see the default Pacific time.
- Reverted behavior of "New comments to you" indicator.
- Updated HTML on index pages (Latest Posts, etc.) We're moving away from font tags, etc., in favor of using style sheets. Big change here is an increased font size of text in article summaries (increased to the "normal size" font)
- Added memory of last tab ("Articles", "Activity", "Comments") visited on index pages. Additionally, each tab remembers it's brevity setting. "Headers" brevity is the same as "Brief", "Text" brevity is the same as "Full". Name changed to hopefully clarify exactly what this does.
- Moved RSS link to bottom of page.
- Moved and renamed "Sidebar Placement" to bottom of page, it is now labeled "Add to My Page", hopefully that is as self-descriptive as "Sidebar Placement" was.
- Other minor tweaks
One last feature I am working to return is the slave windows preference. Will have that working before the new software is installed.
Update: Windows Preference Working
Reimplemented the open-in-new-window preference. It uses different code now. If you use this feature, please let me know if any links are not (or should not be) opening in new windows.

Now the page is too wide again. Something is not stable.

As long as the digital bi-ranging framis is brought up to date, I’ll be OK with it.

I like the new setup very much
I especially like the way my pings page is set up with my posts in green
It’s very nice and easier on my eyes
The site seems to be moving faster now also
Thanks for all your hard work

I haven’t read through all of this thread and haven’t had the page width problem. I’m using IE browser.
Just wish the time on Freepmail would get fixed, lol.

I am joined in your prayers, dear brother in Christ!
To: Alamo-Girl; yorkie; Mrs. Don-o
Thanks for the potency of prayers of agreement. Amen!
And, Lord, please be with Mrs. Don-o’s sons in training and in struggles, in Jesus’ Name.

I don't know a darn thing about computers. All I do is click on FR and enjoy myself and go vote Republican. If FR don't work then nothing works.

fyi- today, 4/14 I notice a small? bug, when browsing comments, and when I click ‘more’, I am taken to list of articles instead of older comments.

...again with the box
Come on... what's it to you whether there's a simple box around a post, or not? And, no, it's not distracting, unless, of course, one is a nitpicker.

Ooops. All of a sudden the FR News and Activism page is too wide for my screen. The side bars and part of the text run off the screen and I have to scroll from side to side to read it all.
I use Mozilla Firefox. Is that you or me? It still happens even when I turn off my bookmarks.

Tell me about it.
I really miss having my posts in green. I know several didn’t like the color, but the concept was great. It made it so much easier to scan for posts or see where I left off.

For a couple days, all the pings in the ping lists that were sent by me were in green. The ones I received were in the usual colors. It allowed me to instantly tell which posts were to me and which ones were from me.
