Installing Free Republic Update Tonight

Posted on 04/08/2008 10:15:49 PM PDT by John Robinson

Will be installing an update tonight that fixes a number of issues. The version that will be installed is currently available on the beta site.

Changes

One last feature I am working to return is the slave windows preference. Will have that working before the new software is installed.

Update: Windows Preference Working

Reimplemented the open-in-new-window preference. It uses different code now. If you use this feature, please let me know if any links are not (or should not be) opening in new windows.

I’m still catching up on all the updates, so thanks in advance for your hard work. John...could the “number of replies” appear larger or in color? It’s a bit hard to find.

Seems you “undid” a great item - the link back to forum/articles at the bottom of the page after you post a reply. That was very handy, and saves a number of unnecessary clicks back to the general forum.

This site was not broken last year. Now it is broken. STOP FIXING IT.

Exactly. Don't fix what isn't broken. I don't like it at all now and it's hard to read. Also, it's now not showing the number of replies?

I concur. I liked it much better when the title of the post was on the top line.

Can you fix a horse race for me?

It's the third at Santa Anita.

The trifecta should be:
Win - November Republicans
Place - Mattt
Show - Bouncy Breasts

concur. I liked it much better when the title of the post was on the top line.

Agreed. Changing the way this place looks every week is irritating. I also agree it wasn't broke a few months ago.

My guess would be no. I am also a HTML challenged person. I even have trouble typing for a long time - requires to much concentration. :-)

I miss the old style that we had before.

I guess I’m just resistant to ‘change’;)

BIG FONT you betcha. Now I am arms’ length from the monitor and can see the details of the room around me.

Every time I came on FR I used to have to go to 'view' and increase the text size. Since hubby got me a 32" monitor, I can read the post from my kitchen. My head is always in constant motion looking around the big screen. I have encountered a problem however, my arms aren't long enough now. LOLOLOL

Very nice job, John. Any thought given to a feature that would allow users to edit their own posts (perhaps with a audit trail that would keep a record of what was originally said)?

This comes up all the time - but there was a case last week where I meant to say “So and so is *now* doing thus and such”
but it came out “So and so is *not* doing thus and such”.

Being able to go back and change “not” to “now” would be a very nice feature. And the number of times this comes up is quite high.

Having some sort of audit trail would prevent people saying “F you” and then changing it to “Have a nice day” and claiming innocence LOL.

Thanks for putting the ping thing back to the way it used to work.

I shouldn’t have to “clear my ping list” so that I know in the future whether I have real new new pings or just the same old new pings!

Can we have the post info -- from, to, date -- at the RIGHT end of the line where left side holds the REPLY, TO 1, etc links?
