Since 1995.
They have never been a part of NATO. Sold advanced technology to the USSR in the 1980s, Harbored US draft dodgers (including girls soccer coach Sylvester Stallone) during the Viet Nam War and sold strategic minerals to the Nazis during WWII.
Sweden has never been what you would call a friend or ally of the US. We can go without their vodka.
I agree. Can we add Ikea to the pile. LOL

Never knew that.
Thanks.
Hot babes. The only thing Sweden is good for.
“Sweden has never been what you would call a friend or ally of the US.”
- I’m Swedish and although I consider myself a friend of the US, I have to admit that a lot of Swedes, at least something like 30-40% of the population, share a negative attitude towards USA. In this sense, Sweden is very much like most other European countries.
On the other hand, this doesn’t mean that Sweden and the US are enemies. For instance, a lot of us here in Scandinavia felt like WE were under attack on 9/11. This sentiment explains why all of Sweden, shortly after, stood still for one minute in order to honor the victims of the attacks against WTC and Pentagon and it also explains why we participate in the WOT by sending troops to Afghanistan.
Throughout history, Sweden has often been double dealing, but tell me what countries have not?
It was easy for Sweden to boycott South Africa during the apartheid era, just like the embargo against Cuba doesn’t cost the US much today.
Having close neighbors like Nazi Germany and Soviet in times of a raging world war is an entirely different story, I can tell you that for sure.
