BAGHDAD — Three U.S. airstrikes targeted mortar launching sites in northeastern Baghdad on Tuesday, killing 12 suspected gunmen, the military said.

The deadly strike occurred shortly before 2 p.m. when an unmanned drone spotted a large group of militants with weapons and mortar tubes, according to an e-mailed statement.

The drone fired a Hellfire missile, killing some 10 militants who were heavily armed, it said.

Iraqi police said 15 people, including women and children, also were wounded in the strike.

But military spokesman Lt. Col. Steve Stover said all three strikes were precise and video footage showed no children or other apparent civilians in the areas.

Another aerial weapons team fired a Hellfire missile elsewhere in the area, killing two suspected militants after two mortar rounds were fired at U.S. forces, according to the statement, which added that the mortar tube also had been destroyed.

It seems that it is the Iraqi police who are always going to the western media and reporting women and children killed.

Nothing would be more entertaining than watching this video.

These drones are worth every penny.

In some places like Sadr City the police are actually uniformed militia members and as the Iraqi Troops get stronger they actually end up replacing these rogue police officers then we start getting better info. The media bites this same old line time and time again and are only forced to report the truth when it’s video taped.

They have definitely paid for themselves in the fact that it eliminates our MSM from reporting enemy propaganda that normally they are happy to do.

When will the Left realize that Iraq is a hugely sucessful Roach Motel?

Exactly. It’s difficult to recruit fanatics to go to the West, lie low for years, and then MAYBE have a chance to strike at the Great Satan when, hey, the Great Satan is in the next country over and it’s *much* more convenient to get a rifle and go next door.

Now, as to which would be the *smarter* plan from their point of view is another story.... but the Iraq (and to a lesser degree Afghanistan) Roach Motels are working *extremely* well.

If, as the MSM tells us, the radical fanatics that desire martyrdom are a microscopic minority of the Middle East population, why, eventually they’ll run out of them to send against us there, won’t they?
