The conflict is, ultimately, an idealogical one, and the former borders and national associations have become less relevant since Communists declared Communism "dead". Which works perfectly with their goals.
An interesting aside is to be found here
Their ultimate goal remains a global order. They have to bring down this country first to make that happen, and they are working hard at it.
No they don't!
All they have to do is get their person elected.
The difference between our views on this exists in the idea that "the threat is coming from outside via places like Russia and China". I don't think that is the case. That is not to say that Russia and China are completely benign, but I don't think that they are part of this particular game.
I think that international socialism -- like al qaeda -- doesn't have "a country". They aren't outside us, they are globalists who work from within our countries. And they aren't "communists", they are instead wealthy global business cabals who sponsor candidates & platforms in a variety of countries. They are more like Nazis (who were National Socialists) but this group works on an international level to elect candidates who will break down our national borders and the concept of sovereignty, and who willingly incorporate their political platforms into their own. This threat is coming from the elite and elitists, not from some type of "peasant revolution", as was the case in countries which became communist.
The EU is falling in nicely with their ruling elite plans. I also think that militant Muslims breaking down the democratic system from within in the West, also work with their plans.
Regardless, of disagreements, "their goal is totalitarianism" is one on which we'd most likely agree.
