Results have yet to emerge six days after presidential elections were held in Zimbabwe. Tension is rising as President Robert Mugabe decides whether he will agree to a runoff with opposition leader Morgan Tsvangirai. Two journalists have been arrested, and there are reports of raids on opposition offices.
President Mugabe summoned the leadership of the country's ruling ZANU-PF party to a meeting Friday to determine whether it should contest the runoff vote. The meeting follows the party's loss of control of parliament for the first time since 1980, when Mugabe led the former British colony to independence.
"I have no doubt the resolution will be in favor of a runoff," a senior party member told Reuters, referring to the meeting. "We cannot just hand it to Morgan (Tsvangirai) on a silver platter. We will fight for it and we will win."

Is there a future after the Obamas?
Zimbabwe doesn’t have a chance at a future until Mugabe is gone.
There won’t be a Zimbabwe after Mugabe, and he shows no signs of leaving.
First of all, there's no future for Zimbabwe WITH Mugabe. Second, that a German publication questions whether a country has a future is truly ridiculous. 1945 is known as year zero in Germany. The slate had been wiped clean, the only direction left, is up. That goes for Zimbabwe too.
“Mugabe and his thugs want to see if they can fix the election first with ballot box stuffing and appealing a loss to their compliant courts. If they can’t, they will try to use the same methods in a run-off elections and as a last resort they will use force to stay in power.”
That sounds vaguely familiar......
