Obama Misfires On Concealed Carry
IBD ^ | April 4, 2008

Gun Control: Barack Obama says he won't take folks' guns away as long as they're hunters. But when the hunted are his constituents, well, that's different: He opposes concealed carry and the right to self-defense.

There's something about an election that brings out the sportsman in a Democratic presidential candidate. Recall John Kerry's sudden fondness for hunting four years ago.

And speaking in Idaho earlier this year, Barack Obama told the crowd, "We got a lot of hunters in the state of Illinois, and I have no intention of taking away folks' guns."

Except he does.

In a 1996 questionnaire, Obama wrote that he "supported banning the manufacture, sale and possession of handguns." He says now that the survey was filled out by an aide who misrepresented his views. Yet his record since then is consistent with that view. Never mind that Illinois and the other 49 states have a lot of two-legged predators.

Illinois resident Hale DeMar was prosecuted by the town of Wilmette for using a handgun to defend his home in 2003. Wilmette had imposed a ban on the possession of handguns, in effect making the town a gun-free zone.

To correct the situation, several Illinois state legislators introduced SB 2165 to protect the right of self-defense for residents like DeMar. Obama voted against the bill.

That self-defense bill protecting the right to bear arms for law-abiding citizens such as DeMar passed the Illinois state Senate and was enacted into law over the governor's veto (and Obama's opposition).

Yeah...that's what the 2nd amendment was written for...duck hunters!!

Good call Obo.

Barack Obama says he won't take folks' guns away as long as they're hunters.

Does that include the folks who are out there hunting me?

Barack Obama says he won’t take folks’ guns away

Apparently he has not read the constitution. He does not and will not have the “power”, as president, to take away anything much less our guns.
Does he think he would be able to sign some kind of executive order banning handguns? That would start a revoloution.

Clearly this man who has sworn to uphold the Constitution, has not even gotten to the 2nd amendment. The security of the state is not threatened by ducks, but rather by quacks like Obama.

I don’t think that most of the liberals have read the constitution, or otherwise they would know that the President doesn’t have the power they think he has

Wrong. They just believe they can rewrite the parts they don't like with a little help from the courts which is why the Presidency is so important to them to start with.

They have good reason to believe it since they have done it.

Revolution? Don’t make me laugh. 75 million gunowners don’t belong to any gun group. That’s 95 percent of all gunowners.

Do you have any idea what the chief reason for not joining the NRA is? The nonmembers complain they have to get off the LazyBoy to throw out a mailer. Fact.

I think this was one of Obama's most radical votes ever. If I understand this correctly, he actually voted to keep it a crime to use a handgun to defend yourself against an intruder in your own home--if you live in one of these towns that has banned said gun.

This man is dangerous.

It looks like your own logic escaped you.
ALL gun owners are members of the group that own guns whether organized or not.
If obama tries to take away all their handguns it would not matter if they are NRA or GOA or SAS or JPFO members or not.

For someone who’s allegedly very bright, Hussein sure contradicts that with some very stupid remarks.

I haven't joined the NRA because they aren't principled defenders of the right to keep and bear arms.

They fought tooth and nail to strangle in the cradle the case now known as D.C. v. Heller. It wasn't until Heller won at the D.C. Circuit (their Johnny-come-lately, copycat effort was thrown out of the same court) that they finally got on board.

No thanks to the NRA, who had to be dragged along kicking and screaming, we're about to see the greatest victory for gun rights in over 50 years. I'd rather not fund such a spineless organization.

He won’t get any southern states and the west (except CA and OR) are gone.

And with this he’ll lose anything but the deepest blues.

Bullsh!t. The NRA was very concerned because Robert Levy didn’t own a gun and “didn’t travel in those circles” to use his words.

And do you have a crystal ball and know exactly how swing voter Kennedy is really going to vote?

I can't wait for the Heller decision to come down. Man, how the liberals will squirm when their hero, Ruth Bader Ginsberg, joins with the majority in holding that the Second Amendment protects an individual, not collective, right to keep and bear arms.
