Oh sheesh, a vodka ad, BTW which is in English and ran in Spanish language magazines, is a bigger threat than al-queda to some on FR.

I thought that Americans had become more sophisticated about 60's and 70's style Madison Ave. tricks, and brilliantly lampooned by Steve Martin in the 1979 movie, "The Jerk", in which Steve Martin's character only feels like a stud unless he has the bamboo umbrella in his drink, like he saw in a magazine.

But you all get in a huff about a vodka ad in English(the irony is priceless), that basically states that if you drink this vodka, the ad will come true.

Amazing how people can be manipulted.

I would say illegal immigration and no defense of our borders IS a bigger issue than Al-Queda. If you take care of those two, Al-Queda has little to no ability to do any harm in the US. We need very strict immigration rules and those who are not legal citizens should not be eligible for welfare benefits, period.

The fact is we're well aware of what Al-Queda represents but when a large company puts out ads like this it really makes you wonder what larger problems we as a country face. Note I have no problem with Hispanics at all--but they need to be here legally under OUR terms with the people that WE choose. If we need to allow more legal immigration I have no problem but this flood of illegal immigration coupled with free bennies and undue burdon on our healthcare system is outrageous.

Dane is partly right, for once. Getting upset over a vodka ad is pretty worthless.

It would be extraordinarily more effective if regular citizens would hold politicians publicly accountable. For instance, imagine if a better questioner had asked a better question in this case:

Some sample questions are here:

Here's I how I interpret this ad....drink this stuff and you will be so snookered that you could actually believe that Mexico could expand and not get it's butt kicked by the USA. Only a drunk would believe it.

That is a great trick and right out of the Leftist Handbook©:

HEY! WHY PAY SO MUCH ATTENTION TO THIS ___________ WHEN THIS ___________ IS SO MUCH WORSE!

I'm foolish enough to believe that just because one thing is considerably higher up the Richter Scale of Wrong than the other doesn't mean I should ignore the lesser of the two evils.

I can happily bitch about both. (and frequently do.)

So let me get this straight - you think too much attention is being paid to a vodka advertisement and so to address this absurdity you...start another FR thread about it?

I boycott Absolut for a different reason. It tastes like crap. If I wanted cheaply made vodka, I’d buy Popov, which was somewhat popular on college campuses when I was there for one reasons - price. If I’m paying $25 a bottle, make it a good whiskey.

I’m not positive about this, but I heard that over in Sweden, that absolut was under another brandname that sold bad because it tasted like crap. They then kept the taste the same, but had did some ace marketing in the US as a “premium” brand for all the yuppies in college who want to look sophisticated. Even raised the price. Hook, like, sinker.

I bet Absolut is laughing to the bank on this outrage.

In response to the blog post published by the Los Angeles Times on Friday, April 4th concerning an Absolut Vodka advertisement, Grupo Gallegos wants to officially clarify it did not create the controversial advertisement in question. Grupo Gallegos is currently not associated with Absolut Vodka in any capacity.
