I got a note from Mr. Moran, the PR guy at Absolut. It reads" "The ad has been down -- have you not seen the Pears ad in its place?"

Where’s the apology?
There’s got to be an apology.
Michelle is awesome!
Oh no! And Glenlivet too!
Good letter! I hope you get a response back.
“Oh man, I just saw it. That sucks!”
Yep, that sums it up nicely.
Thanks. This is uncalled for. I’m in the middle of writing to the company. Evidently, they think they can sell more Absolut to Mexicans over cheap tequilla by printing anti-American propoganda ads. Good luck. Guess they don’t realize half of the country is attempting to cross over here illegally on any given day because they’re DIRT POOR. Not exactly your typical Absolut customer.
check out the Malkin thread, just darn their going off over there.
They are all over it, like you said. I asked the company in my email if they had the same PR guy has Saddam Hussein? The guy that sent me the email is a director of publicity, or something like that.
I think I’ll call him Baghdad Bob.
Personally, there really isn’t an apology suitable for this type of infraction, IMHO. The company is pandering, for the $$. That’s it. It’s that simple. It’s hard to believe that at a round table full of execs, not one person had the courage to make the case that this probably wouldn’t be well received in the States. Or, maybe they did and just didn’t care.
I was not the first to send them a note. Many freepers and others were all over this before me. I just wanted to let others know that I got a response.
An apology seals their confession of how wrong this pandering truly was, and repudiates (at least rhetorically) whatever goodwill they might have gained in the market where the ad ran.
Well, I suppose, given time, one of the execs or share holders may sprout a brain cell and offer one of those ‘non-apologies’ again, like they’ve already tried.
How would the Swedish feel if Skyy vodka did an ad campaign in Germany that showed Sweden part of the 3rd Reich as being part of a “Skyy World”.
I ask this question to those at the PR department at Absolut Vodka.
I suggest that everyone respond to this “explanation” with an e-mail stating that the “explanation” is more insulting than the ad itself.
I have already done so.
Absolut does not present to me “a world that appeals”.
Yep....and yep.
Absolut Fence! LOL!!!!
Exactly. I asked them what their Middle East ads are going to look like? Are they going to have masked dark-haired Arab-looking terrorists poised to slit the throat of an American? I felt that followed their logic.
In an absolut world, an even larger swath of America will be crime-ridden, drug-infested, poorly educated, and will lose its sovereignty to a foreign nation? And have no jobs?
Damn, is that supposed to be an advertisement from the DNC or the RNC?
“explanation”,,,or lack thereof, right!
PR-speak. That’s all it is. I say keep the pressure on.
