Clinton's Fibs Remind Many Of Bad Ol' Days
IBD ^ | April 3, 2008 | Charles Krauthammer

Hillary Clinton met her Waterloo at Tuzla. She'd been regaling audiences with tales of a dangerous landing under sniper fire in the Bosnian city 12 years ago and then running for cover. None of this occurred. When CBS provided the tape, she was forced to admit to "a misstatement."

Now, confabulation is a fairly common psychological phenomenon. We all have internalized childhood stories so oft repeated by elders that we come to falsely "remember" the actual experience. Adult memories are less susceptible to such unconscious inventions, but experiences embellished over time by repeated recounting can reach the point where we actually believe the elaborate trappings of our own retellings.

Clinton's problem is that a corkscrew landing under sniper fire is the kind of thing that is hard to forget and harder still for memory to invent. This is confabulation on a pathological scale.

A Clintonian scale. And that's the problem. Barack Obama has been gaining on Hillary in part because Tuzla reminds Democrats what they had largely succeeded in banishing from consciousness: the Clintons' arm's-length relationship with truth. The great New York Times columnist William Safire once called Hillary Clinton "a congenital liar" and made it stick. And that was more than a decade before snipergate.

The revulsion at the Clintons' lack of scruples remained latent as long as the focus was on her relatively unknown opponent, a blank slate being filled in with Tony Rezko's shady dealings and Jeremiah Wright's racist rants. Tuzla provided a distraction from Obama's problem with the raving reverend, and it created the perfect setting for the press to pronounce the Wright affair closed.

There are psychological disorders which include as one of the markers, crazy lying. Crazy lying is lying when you know you’ll get caught. Often the person lying believes what s/he is saying. And of course, lying is a mental disorder because its an unwillingness to deal with reality.

it created the perfect setting for the press to pronounce the Wright affair closed.

Which was, after all, exactly why Hillary did it.

"An 'honorable person' would 'stay away from this stuff.'"

An honorable person would stay away from the Democrat Party. In fact, we do.

When this story first came out, my brother sent me an email quoting Churchill on how nothing focuses like the mind like getting shot at. My brother hadn’t been to war, but he said that he was out hunting once when some idiot fired right over his head and he heard the bullet whiz by his ear from just a couple of feet away. He said that was just one bullet over 20 years ago, yet he can recall every detail of that moment as if it just happened. Yet Hillary simply misremembered a corkscrew landing and dodging sniper fire. So she’s either a big fat liar or she’s clinically demented, and I don’t really want either one of those qualities in the Oval Office.

Eighteen years ago a friend and I were on an airplane about an hour from landing at Heathrow airport in London. All of a sudden the plane started pitching and we dropped in altitude. We barely even had time to fasten our seatbelts beforehand. That was 18 years ago, and I still remember every second of what happened, because we were afraid we were going to go down.

I can see forgetting or misremembering minor stuff, but something like plane turbulence, or being under sniper fire - no freekin’ way!

Hillary’s security detail would never in a million years allow the First Lady of the United States to get off a plane under sniper fire or any other threatening conditions. Hillary can’t seem to fathom that WE ARE SICK AND TIRED OF HER ENDLESS BLATANT LIES!

What must Chelsea be like? Spawned by two congenital liars. What talk there must have been at the dinner table. She has the genes and the environment. I wonder if she knows that there is a difference between truth and make-believe. Her parents don’t.

They are Fiberals. That’s all there is to say other than the fact that we may question Hillary’s sanity and doubt the truth all of her words.

It doesn't speak highly of her own judgement, or the Clinton Administration's judgement in sending her and Chelsea over there along with entertainers if the situation was as dangerous as she desires it to be for her run for president.

Amazing. We've gone beyond moral equivalence to moral inversion. It is now dishonorable to even make note of Wright's bigotry and ask how any man — let alone a man on the threshold of the presidency — could associate himself for 20 years with the purveyor of such hate.

This is the money quote. We have a terribly serious problem in this country.
