The Rock is Christ himself, and Peters confession of Christs lordship. The Church is built on Christ, not Peter. A church built on a man would be a sad thing indeed.
Nice try, but that pat explanation never passed the Occam's Razor test. When you have to convolute scripture to make it fit your own PoV, there's something wrong there.

do you belong to a Church built on a man?
On Christ the solid ROCK I stand, all other ground is shifting sand.
As I said, not interesting in starting a flame war, I will not convince you and you will not convince me, but I feel a Church built on a man is a very tenuous thing. My Church will never fail because it is built on the only One who will never fail.

I see that we have wisely tried to stay away from this one...
When two are three are gathered together in His name...
there will be an argument.

Here comes the “our church is the original and better blah blah...”

The writers of the Bible were not stupid, and therefore did not use convoluted grammar.
As you state, the quote is as it is. Peter is the “rock” on which the Church is built. Jesus was making a pun, as well, for “Petra” is “rock”. This is probably why Jesus changed Simon’s name TO Peter.

I believe your statement is what Mom MD was conveying to you
