PHOENIX -- Hispanic leaders are calling for an immediate end to Sheriff Joe Arpaio's illegal immigrants' patrols, claiming they are dividing the community and could lead to violence.
"As a community, we see him going out setting up his troops and stopping people at random -- racial profiling," said Hector Yturralde, president of We Are America. "After they find out they can't speak English or they have no identification, then they stop them for immigration."
Yturralde added, "He is causing a division within this community that is not good. And that is not his job."
He said the sheriff is using his title to grandstand at taxpayers' expense.
In the past two weeks, Arpaio has conducted patrols at two Phoenix locations where day laborers gather, using some 200 deputies and posse members. Last week, more than 50 people were arrested in the area around Cave Creek and Bell Roads. More than a dozen were illegal immigrants. Arpaio has vowed to continue the operations.
Yturralde, Lydia Guzman with Respect Respecto and immigrants' activist and former state lawmaker Alfredo Gutierrez expressed concerns that Arpaio's patrols, which have drawn large groups of protesters, will end up in violence.
"We're seeing people come out of the shadows who are very angry because at some point they feel victimized," said Guzman. "And other people are coming out of maybe the other side of the shadows and saying we want something done."
Gutierrez said most "decent" people do not believe the sheriff's operations are accomplishing anything, except dividing the community.
"He chose to take this extraordinary provocative approach," Gutierrez said, adding that during last week's operation, "We were able to maintain control, but barely." He said more patrols could lead to formal resistance, i.e. civil disobedience on the streets of Phoenix.
"I think that will begin to occur at his next excursion, the next time he brings 200 or 300 people into a neighborhood to arrest people," Gutierrez said.
Guzman and Gutierrez said everyone believes that immigration reform is absolutely necessary, but it is the responsibility of Congress and the federal government.
Illegals just go home. No problem.
You go...Joe!!!
Sheriff Joe For President!!!!!!
So let me get this straight.
The illegal alien invaders are saying that if the Sheriff enforces the laws of the USA they will attack?
Sounds like a declaration of war.
Molon Labe!
Outstanding! This is great.
Yturralde added, "He is causing a division within this community that is not good.
A division between illegals and American citizens is very good indeed.
So basically the president of this organization is indirectly proposing violence to stop a Sheriff from enforcing the law.
OK great. Got it.
Arrest and deport her ass while you’re at it, Sheriff.
The Wetbacks are asking for a Hudna!
Well, bring on the violence and we will see who wins.
Yes, it does sound like their argument is that the sheriff should not enforce the law or the criminals might get mad.

If it does, they will lose.
This is not a “fear”, this is a “warning”.
You cannot be a serious student of such massive, tectonic demographics shifts, territorial incursion/occupation, and balkanzation, of any modern day nation such as the USA, without projecting out scenarios containing some eventual violence, as it slowly but surely escalates.
And in my opinion, they will be the ones to start it.
I think they are starting to position for it, and accordingly are issuing these veiled threats.
Because at the end of the day, they will NOT go home and they will squat. Logic tells us that something "has to give."
I and many others I talk too see it coming--I read it in Spanish language blogs and hear it in Spanish media as well. Storm clouds are brewing, the sub prime crash and recession just feed into it and polarization from both sides. I would hope these illegals would just toss in the towel, write off their losses and get out while the getting is good. But I also know of their patent intransigence, entitlement-mentality, lawlesslessness, and prediliction toward brute violence.
I just hope my fellow law abiding, sovereignty loving Americans back home, especially those living on marginal areas close to large concentrations of unemployed and attitude-laden illegal aliens, have taken all preparations and have plans in place for their family's personal and property safety.
I’d work for Sheriff Joe.

Stop them for immigration? No they stop them for being ILLEGAL aliens.
Since when did a Sheriff have troops? I thought the Officers were members of the community sworn to uphold the LAW.
Typical use of code words by those that seek to see that the laws of this nation are not enforcred when it comes to their sacred cows............
I love how they feel they have more rights than US Citizens.
I need to arm up and get ready. Then let the show begin.
Funny how the man claims- to be the PRES of “We are America”, yet; the ones he claims to support are not American citizens.
Let me get this straight, if Sheriff Joe Arpaio does not stop enforcing the law that he swore to enforce then the law abiding citizens are going to get violent, or is it the illegal citizens are going to get violent?
Gutierrez said most "decent" people do not believe the sheriff's operations are accomplishing anything, except dividing the community.
Now these decent people are those that are not baby rapers, terrorist bombers or illegal immigrants right?
