Challenger beats Butler in high court race; 1st such ouster since '67
Madison - Burnett County Circuit Judge Michael Gableman won a seat on the Wisconsin Supreme Court by a narrow margin Tuesday, bucking history and becoming the first challenger to knock off an incumbent state Supreme Court justice in more than 40 years.
When Gableman takes the seat Aug. 1, it will be the first time in 110 years there hasn't been a justice from Milwaukee.
Just before midnight, Gableman declared victory in the race against incumbent Louis Butler.
"I recognize this is not a moment of individual victory . . . it's a victory for all the people across this state, all the good people who are dedicated to seeing justice done," Gableman said.

Maybe, he’ll start rolling back all our ridiculous “indian rights” Poaching, shootings, building takeovers and white people beaten to death on reservations by “special populations” of special people with more “civil” rights.
Good statement.
Then there's Jim Doyle, Russ Feingold, Herb Kohl, and assorted other kooks. They even voted for a Democrat to represent Green Bay in Congress last election. The district is Republican.
On Wisconsin. Return to sanity. Good job.
Yeah, hopefully this is just the first in a long string of victories.
BUMP to tell you all about another Conservative Victory for Wisconsin. That’s now FIVE by my count. :) (Supreme Court win, Scott Walker re-elected as Milwaukee County Exec., the death of the “Frankenstein Veto” and ousting FOUR “Progressives” from the Dane County Board. Tee-Hee!)
Martz wins recount in District 33
Bill Novak 4/07/2008 3:09 pm
Dane County Board Supervisor Jack Martz remained victorious in his race against challenger Nancy Hylbert for the 33rd District seat in Fitchburg, following a recount of the razor-thin election results today.
Martz, 66, a three-term conservative, still finished with 1,107 votes while Hylbert, 58, a first time candidate, lost one vote to finish with 1,088 votes, so Martz ended up winning by 19 votes.
The recount took place this morning at the City-County Building, conducted by county clerk staff.
The new vote tally has been verified by the county’s Canvassing Board and the new totals posted on the county election web site.
The 37-member board will hold its final meeting of the year Thursday night beginning at 7 p.m. in Room 201 of the City-County Building.
The new edition of the County Board, including seven new supervisors, will be sworn in Tuesday night at the organizational meeting of the board, with that meeting also beginning at 7 p.m.
The first regular meeting of the 2008-09 County Board is scheduled for April 24.
