St. Petersburg, FL (LifeNews.com) -- Terri Schiavo's family and a leading pro-life group are calling on people to honor the disabled woman whose husband took her life in a painful euthanasia death. Together with Priests for Life, the Schindler family has established the observance of Terris Day each March 31.
That's the day Terri succumbed to a 13-day starvation and dehydration death at the hand of Michael Schiavo, her former husband who won a court order to take her life.
This third anniversary should be an occasion for all of us to both remember the injustice done to Terri, and reach out to others with prayer and concrete action when they need the kind of help Terri needed," Terri's brother Bobby Schindler told LifeNews.com on Monday.
Suzanne Vitadamo, Terris sister, added that Terri's Day is also a way for her family to encourage others to take better care of the elderly and disabled.
Our family continues to be consoled and uplifted by the many ways in which people honor my sister, learn from her story, and grow in compassion for all the disabled," she said.
During the days leading up to Terri's death, Father Frank Pavone of Priests for Life brought comfort and peace to the Schindler family.
Father Pavone was present for the final prayer Terri participated in before her death. He also saw the manipulative ways Michael tried to prevent the Schindler family from caring for her or being present with her during the starvation and dehydration.
Terris death was not the end of her fight," he told LifeNews.com. "It was the beginning of a new chapter in the pro-life movement."
"I call upon all those who were moved by Terris death to continue their courageous activism in the cause of life, and never to be silent," he said.
Together, Priests for Life and the Terri Schindler-Schiavo Foundation encourage churches, families, organizations and individuals to observe Terris Day with prayers, memorial services, educational activities and community outreach.

Haleigh Poutre...
.......................
Boston, MA (LifeNews.com) -- A young girl who doctors claimed was in a vegetative state after she was abused by her adoptive parents has made such a strong recovery she has been able to tell officials more about the problems. One bioethicist says there are lessons to be learned about writing off patients who are supposedly too far gone.
After 14-year-old Haleigh Poutre was viciously abused, she had to be admitted to a pediatric rehabilitation hospital in September 2005.
Massachusetts officials eventually took custody of her and physicians indicated Poutre had entered into a coma.
State officials asked the Massachusetts Supreme Court for permission to remove Poutre's feeding tube and end her life as Terri Schiavo's ex-husband was allowed to do.
However, new reports indicate Poutre made such a strong recovery she was able to testify about the abuse in court in December. The Boston Globe indicated she used simple words and hand gestures along with pointing to letters and words to indicate what had happened to her.
Bioethics watchdog Wesley Smith says the media needs to do a better job reporting on how doctors got their assessment of Poutre's condition wrong and how that may be the case with other patients like Schiavo.
"There is a huge lesson to be learned in this story, but we won't learn it and the media won't highlight the issue -- lest we come to the 'wrong conclusion' about Terri Schiavo," he said.
He said Haleigh's ability to tell the court what happened to her so prosecutors could move ahead with the case is "Not bad for a little girl who was supposed to remain forever unaware."
"I hope judges and doctors will ponder this story next time a dehydration request is made on the basis that a cognitively disabled patient -- particularly a young one -- will never improve or whenever hospital ethics committees try to impose futile care treatment terminations," he said.
Smith concluded: "As that great philosopher Yogi Berra once said, 'It ain't over 'til it's over.'"Meanwhile, Haleigh’s sister, Samantha Poutre, has given investigators more information about what happened and indicated Poutre's stepfather Jason Strickland kicked Haleigh down a flight of stairs.

Haleigh...
From the North Shore, Salem Massachusetts area:
................................
Outrage over the failure by the state Department of Social Services to protect children in a number of recent, high-profile cases is both understandable and justifiable.
Clearly improvements are imperative, especially in light of a recent report issued by the Children's Advocacy Institute and the watchdog group First Star, which gave the state a D-minus for its efforts to protect children from abuse. Only 10 states fared worse than ours.
The report cites several examples of DSS failures including the case of Haleigh Poutre, who was beaten into a near-fatal coma while in foster care; and Rebecca Riley, the 4-year-old whose parents face manslaughter charges as a result of her death from an overdose of prescription drugs. In these and other instances, DSS supervision failed to protect children from harm.
The recent report was also particularly critical of the agency's failure to come clean with the public about problems within the system...............
Our view: Save outrage for those who most deserve it

TALLAHASSEE — On Thursday, Sen. Lisa Carlton found herself in the one place in the Florida Legislature she finds most uncomfortable: the center of attention.
~Snip~
In the Legislature, Carlton is the quiet, sometimes swing vote.
She opposed Gov. Bush in the Terri Schiavo right-to-die case. She voted to defeat a measure this week to require a woman to undergo an ultrasound before having an abortion in Florida. But as other senators rose and gave passionate explanations of their votes, she said nothing.........

The right stuff emerges in Virginia...
.............................
With former governors Jim Gilmore (R) and Mark Warner (D) running, many political insiders consider Del. Bob Marshall (R-13) as Virginia’s underdog candidate for U.S. Senate.
But Springfield resident Bob Berry, who has never been elected to office before, has more of an uphill battle to climb for the seat being vacated by U.S. Sen. John Warner (R).
~Snip~
"The idea of trying to establish amnesty — which our Republican nominee for president, John Warner and others support — is inexcusable and irresponsible to do before the border is secure," said Berry.
Berry said he has also been troubled with the Republican Party’s approach to life and other social issues.
The candidate, an evangelical Christian, was extremely upset by the Terri Schiavo case in 2005, which involved a family dispute over whether a terminally ill and unconscious Florida woman should have her feeding tube removed.
The conservative is also concerned about the growing acceptance of homosexuality. He said liberals were interested introducing perversion into human relationships.
"There is a growing fear among Republicans to attack or oppose that idea," said Berry...........

Howdy everyone! We’re hooome! Thank you all so much for your prayers! The operation went smoothly and without much pain. I now have at least two major arteries delivering healing blood to my legs. I’m still a bit groggy and don’t know exactly what was done, but I believe I received at least two stints. The surgeon will be calling me sometime in the next few days to set up a consultation. He says the big toe has got to go.

"I hope judges and doctors will ponder this story next time a dehydration request is made on the basis that a cognitively disabled patient -- particularly a young one -- will never improve or whenever hospital ethics committees try to impose futile care treatment terminations," he said. It doesn't make a damn bit of difference if a person's condition will "improve" or not because, in the cases of people like Haleigh, Terri and Lauren, THEY AREN'T DYING. The necessity for FOOD and WATER IS NOT A TERMINAL CONDITION. The arrogance of the death cultists sickens me, they seek to create a system where ANYONE can be proclaimed a "worthless eater."

Why just women? The disabled WOMAN (singular, not women which is plural) in the title refers specifically to Terri Schindler Schiavo, Terri's Day is to fight against the culture of death and for the rights of all with disabilities.

Eliza Doolittle aka Scott Thomas’ wife tried to bump him off after he “allegedly” tripped over the dog. Scott’s alive and well and he has a progress web site. They seem to mostly KILL WOMEN but some men were robbed of their lives by the culture of death in US of A, not in some jihadist state.

LISA CARLTON,don’t let Tallahassee’s screen door hit ya on the way out. For the rest of her life, she can recall when she was a throwback to the Third Reich, voting to kill TERRI SCHINDLER. We have a JPEG of the 9 GOP Rats.
