With former governors Jim Gilmore (R) and Mark Warner (D) running, many political insiders consider Del. Bob Marshall (R-13) as Virginia’s underdog candidate for U.S. Senate.
But Springfield resident Bob Berry, who has never been elected to office before, has more of an uphill battle to climb for the seat being vacated by U.S. Sen. John Warner (R).

"The idea of trying to establish amnesty — which our Republican nominee for president, John Warner and others support — is inexcusable and irresponsible to do before the border is secure," said Berry.
Berry said he has also been troubled with the Republican Party’s approach to life and other social issues.
The candidate, an evangelical Christian, was extremely upset by the Terri Schiavo case in 2005, which involved a family dispute over whether a terminally ill and unconscious Florida woman should have her feeding tube removed.
The conservative is also concerned about the growing acceptance of homosexuality. He said liberals were interested introducing perversion into human relationships.
