As Barack Obama emerged in front of an estimated crowd of 22,000 in front of Old Main on the Penn State University campus, Ashley Sims shouted the kind of welcome usually reserved for pop stars.
"Oh, my God! Oh, my God! I love you, Barack! Look at me! Hi!"
This from a 24-year-old graduate student who customized her cell phone's ring tone as the Obama Girl tune, "I've Got a Crush on Obama."
When speaking about Obama, she has a dreamy look in her eyes, clasps her hands to her chest, and pauses in the middle of sentences as if she just can't find the words.
"I didn't know that he was possible," she said.
At 11:45 a.m., Hershey High School alumni Cayla Rasi and Andrew Mackay arrived at the back of the line. Two hours later, they got in just in time to see the beginning of Obama's speech, but there were people behind them who never made it in.
"It's really amazing everyone got up after a Saturday night at Penn State," Rasi said.
Sean Perugini, a junior from Harleysville, Montgomery County, partied late Saturday, but Obama was worth waking up early for, he said. That's quite an honor in his book.
At a time when he doesn't feel like his government is listening to him, Obama has affirmed his faith in democracy, Perugini said.

In all honesty I am a little concerned about what might happen come August. If Hillary somehow gets the nod and he is “denied” the nomination and this corresponds with a heat wave (a good chance in August) then you might very well see riots all over in the big cities.
All it will take is one neighborhood to run to the streets and the news shows video of the first plasma television going out a window the rest of the cities will go like dominoes.
Blind devotion like this coupled with the racial factor and the feeling of being cheated once again can add up to one hell of a summer.
Back in the day when we were young, a house purchase was our main focus. Not vacations, expensive cars, or video games...
Agreed...
Do you have your belt on? This could get ugly. :-)
I live 30 min. from the border of NJ. Our home prices went skyhigh because so many NJ commuters moved to PA.
Either that, or a "Journalism" major. You'd be hard pressed to find this sort of demeanor in the Engineering department....
I’m shocked she’s not a typical white person.

You got it.
But that's what I'm talking about -- at 24, out of college for three years, it's inconceivable that you could have 20% of the $300k that a typical single-family house costs in the Northeast even if you continued living like a college pauper. In my native NJ it's out of the question. Young people get a bad rap for their attitudes toward money, but they know an overpriced market when they see it. Wait a decade or so for this market to bottom out and you'll see responsible 24-year-olds buying their first homes again.

My first house wasn’t a $300K single family home. It was a 2 bedroom townhouse. I’m not saying it’s not tough to do these days with the market being overinflated, but it can be done depending on one’s willingness to downsize or grab a bargain fixer upper, etc. And you’re right, now that the market is coming down to reality, there will be bargains to be had.
WOW!! 7 total friends is something to be proud of these days. /sarc
as a Pitt alum, i’d rag on you guys for this, but i have no doubt he’d get a similar reception at the U of Pittsburgh, unfortunately.
I’m glad you have a house. If bama is prez those students probable won’t be able to buy one.
“Obama’s coming to my area today, and people are going crazy....”
What is utterly disturbing is that Obambi is so obviously a racist, a black liberation advocate who despises America’s traditions. Yet, there are legions of lemmings who will eagerly follow him in lock-step towards a totalitarian nightmare of staggering proportions.
Thank God we are a constitutional republic instead of a pure democracy, because therein rests our only hope for survival.
Fox just announced they have “breaking news” on some new Obama docs that show radical views. Ms. Kelly says—we are all over it. Anyone know about this scoop?

Didn't hear about that yet...
“...can add up to one hell of a summer.”
We’ll be in for a real hot summer, no doubt about it.
