The reason al-Sadr surrendered
YouTube ^ | March 30, 2008 | Thomas W.

Posted on 03/30/2008 7:36:46 PM PDT by Thomas W.

Iraqi Special Forces, advised by Coalition troops, take on the Madhi Army in Sadr City. This is the one of the most intense firefights ever caught on film, and it explains why al Sadr has already begged for a truce. The overweight and/or underage dopes of the Madhi Army are no match for the increasingly lethal Iraqi forces. Prime Minister Maliki has the upper hand now.

Listen for the GAU minigun ripping away at 50 rounds per second.

They are Iraqi, and very well trained - they pulled this off themselves.

Kicking some butt!

“I really think a lot of people don’t get what ‘surrender’ means.”

Patience, grasshopper. They’re taking baby steps over there.

Now we have Shi’ite security forces willing to fight Shi’ite militiamen; we have Sunni “Concerned Citizens” (or whatever they’re called now) willing to fight Sunni terrorists; and the population is turning against ALL terrorists.

The tectonic plates are shifting in the Middle East. Like all massive changes in the earth the movement is happening so gradually it’s hard to notice, but the changes are astonishing. Four years ago no Shi’ite soldier would’ve helped arrest or kill a Shi’ite militiaman.

And don’t forget the reason for the whole current hootenanny: al Sadr declared a truce and Maliki “accepted” it, and then Maliki went about dismantling the Mahdi Army. The Iraqis and Coalition have been arresting and killing these guys daily for the past year, even though Maliki had allegedly agreed not to do so.

So even if Maliki says he’ll accept another truce, he’s already shown that he’s perfectly happy to violate it and get rid of our fat, rotten-toothed friend Mookie.

What do you mean you’ve never seen an M2 on an HMMWV? No offense, but you need to get outside the wire more. Its pretty common, or at least during my FOUR tours its been (as in I am on the fourth now and its a daily occurence....still).

Are women allowed to pray in the mosque?

I thought the GAU mini gun was only mounted on aircraft of one mix or another — but this video convinced it was vehicle mounted..

Talk about a snarly ride!

I’m not so sure I like the two way visibility of lasers pointers on weapons.....
Couldn’t an enemy with simple gear see the sources - and fire on the sources?

"No offense, but you need to get outside the wire more."

Those of us old enough to know the expression -- resemble that remark!

Hell - tonight was the first time I became aware the GAU mini guns were wheeled vehicle mounted!.... Such a beast...

The old AC-47 “Puff the Magic Dragon” - has been doing steroids - big time.

“Puff” is now known as the AC 130 — with a much improved arsenal and abilities......

ROE?

Hell - it looked like they were lighting up everything in sight or out of sight!

The only indication of incoming - was some jerk firing tracered rounds into the sky!

Talk about “spray and pray” -— it’s a damned good thing they were mechanized and mounted, there aren’t enough ethics in the country to haul the ammo they expended!

Just DAMN!

Sure sounded like it to me. I have to watch again, to see if it can be seen. It might have been on a helo that is out of view. I’m also reading elsewhere that an AC-130 gunship took out 20+ enemy who were firing on our troops from a rooftop. Now the enemy are whining about some civilian casualties from that. I guess if you are shooting from a roof, with family below, and a gunship finds you,it’s going to be bad for your family.

Yes, an enemy with NV will see the IR laser. This is less common in Iraq than in Afghanistan. The use of IR lasers must be carefully measured, but in a free for all firefight like this one, against an enemy basically lacking NV, they are a huge force multiplier.

In the hinterboonies of Afghanistan, my understanding is they are used less often, because as you noted, the enemy who is wearing NV may be tipped off to your arrival. The IR spotlights are especially risky to use if the enemy has NV.

The IR lasers are also used as a terrific pointer for heavy weapons. A solder can aim his pointer at a single enemy firing hole, and a Bradley, say, can then put a big round right straight through that firing hole to explode inside.

NPR would have reported Stalingrad as a victory for the Nazis, when the Germans “forced” the Soviets to stop shooting.

I don’t know why the tracers were launched upward. Might have been an enemy MG.
