Wisconsin Supreme court election April 1st
03/30/08 | L.J.Keslin

Through passive listening posts operated within central Wisconsin The US Mat makes the following projection where there are no local contests in the April 1st Wisconsin election

It will be a lightly attended Wisconsin non partisan -/ party primary election held on April Fools Day Tuesday April 1st. when Madison area resident Supreme Court Justice  Louis Butler will whip opponent Burnett county Circut court Appeals judge Michael Gableman for a 10 year term on the Supreme Court by a whopping 14 points.

The low turnout was because the average Wisconsin voter was engulfed in snow and dashed dreams of Wisconsin winding up in the "Sweet 16" finals. Voters lay sleeping unaware there was an important election. A Wisconsin Supreme Court  which had tilted to the far left with the appointment of a  "creationist" Judge who is up to be elected to a 10 year term. In those areas where there are no local contests The projected turnout will be under 26%

In a campaign supporting Butler which was fed by two groups;  Trial lawyers, which sees increased revenues from product liability suits, who were supporting  Butler with sizeable campaign contributions but also ran independent organization ads charging lack of ethics by Gableman , or claiming delayed appeal rulings from Gableman's Burnett county overloaded one judge "circut" court.
Another was WEAC,(the Wisconsin teachers union) which opposes virtual, home and charter schooling but ran ads against Gableman asserting he was soft on rapists and  pedophiles,
Both were masking their real interests which could prove unpopular with the Wisconsin electorate by issuing charges on issues which rarely pop up on the state Supreme Court docket.
Unfortunately the major groups supporting Gableman: Police officers, Manufactuers Association, and family groups opposed to abortion  responded to the charges the above groups were making. instead of bringing up "creative jurist impudence"  by judges on the Wisconsin Supreme Court.

Because of that Butler victory a new and burgeoning industry will soon be replacing hundreds of medium and small manufacturers and the  thousands they employ as they rush to leave the state. ...

The law in question was a  product.liability ruling supported by Butler in the Wisconsin Supreme Court  which  allows legal suits if an alledged faulty  product  is genericly similar .This even though the manufacturer never made the product .Because of that result of a state supreme court judical election which suggests this law has little chance of being reviewed and overturned.

That  Butler victory means these manufacturers  will soon be replaced by high priced lawyers and their ancillary industries; Court reporters, and investigators who will be welcomed by Wisconsin's governor Doyle .who also vetoed an attempt by the Wisconsin state legislature to address that court ruling and limit medical payouts when the Republicans controlled the state legislature.

The conclusion was reached through passive listening to where sundry conversations of a non political nature were monitored of 200 people at different locations within a tri county area where no serious contested local elections were being held.. The respondents were simply asked if they intended to vote in this election and the majority was negative.

20% turnout predicted, roughly the same as the last State Sup Court election. I predict Butler will lose, because the Milw County Exec race will bring out conservatives to vote for Walker and they will vote for Gabelman as well. Low turnout elections will help conservatives more than libs, as the UW students will stay in the dorms rather than vote like in the Pres primary. Conservatives, on the other hand will also be motivated to vote to abolish the “frankenstein’ veto that Gov Doyle has used to rewrite each budget he gets. Waukesah Co, Wash Co, and Ozaukee Co will turn out in big enough numbers, as well as Gabelman’s base in NW Wisc to put him over the top. Talk radio has been relentless in stressing the importance of defeating Loophole louie.

Nah...not enough interest to cuase fraud. Homeless won’t go out to vote for a few bucks of a few cigs because the weather will probably be bad. I think city of Milw turnout will be low, as will Madison. If that happens Loophole Louie does not stand a chance.

From your lips to God's ear. We are looking at an 80% chance of rain turning to snow on Tuesday. That should turn the tables.

For an editor, he is one darn bad writer.

The errors in grammar make the article impossible to read.

I hope your right. I seem to recall boxes of ballots found in election offices in Milwaukee.

” but ran ads against Gableman asserting he was soft on rapists and pedophiles..”

The power of negative ads. I was on a Gableman phone bank this weekend and a Gableman supporter on the phone asked me about this ad. His support of Gableman was wavering because of this one ad. I assured him it was just a false negative ad and he seemed OK but this sure reenforced to me how powerful negative ads are and how easily people are infuenced by them.

Lets hope I’m wrong which was the purpose of the posting. Rally the troops. But this is what happens when campaigns get bound up with being Politically Correct.
