Yet the ONLY subject that made it into print was my position on the Iraq War. That's the least favored of the positions I have taken. Why would the paper do that?
Well, the Times-News is a wholly-owned subsidiary of the NY Times, don't you see? They want Heath Shuler to survive. And the editors view me as a problem in that regard.

I suspected that there was much more to the conversation when I read the article. They wanted to pick out one thing you said that, while completely true, might sound "brutal" to some sensitive ears, those who wouldn't view your remarks in terms of creating disincentives for enemy nations.
They also managed to include the quote, “They are there to die.” Which is unfortunate, because it makes you look callous.
